Can anyone confirm this - AdSense pricing

Is the "first" ad still the greatest EPC?

It has been my understanding in the past that the EPC of the advertisements starts at its highest point with the very first ad block to load, and decreases with every ad thereafter.

I have been seeing some changes in my EPC for certian sections, and I am not 100% sure that this is the case anymore.

Either my EPC is varying greatly and I'm just getting unlucky as far as which ads are being clicked - or the ads that load LAST on my page are paying better...

Can anyone shine some light on this, or am I experiencing a strange week as a result of all the AdWords changes as of recent?

Epc can vary wildly to begin with.

But the first ad is not neccessarily the highest epc as I understand it.

I think that if an ad with a lower epc gets a higher ctr it could be shown in the first spot.

Thank you Ken. That puts it perfectly clear.

Basically - they put the ad that tends to pay out the most per x number of impressions.

Excellent.
