Channels have very much lower CTR

My daily CTR is normally reported in double figures, however when I look at the channels seperately they all have very much lower CTR's and even added together do not quite add up to the daily quoted CTR.

What am I missing? I thought the quoted CTR for all my sites would be the average of the CTR's and that there would be a similar CTR's for the individual channels.

Bump. Reported CTR for an account with multiple channels what dose it really mean?

Is it the addition of all the channels or the average of all of them?

CTR is neither the average nor the addition of the channels' CTR. It's the calculation of clicks to impressions. Channels that get more impressions make a bigger impression on your total CTR than channels with fewer impressions.

That said, it sounds like something's up with your stats. Normally, if you had a total CTR of, say, 13%, and a lot of channels with much lower CTR's, you'd have at least one channel that got a lot more impressions and had a CTR of well above 13%. If you don't have any such channel, then it sounds like not all of your clicks are being recorded in channels. Try comparing your total clicks to the total of the clicks in your channels (and be careful of double-reported clicks). If you find a discrepancy, track down where the other clicks are coming from and assign their pages to channels. That should make your CTRs match up better.

Thanks curiosity.

In my case, lets suppose my normaly reported CTR (combined I asume) is around 12%.

When I do a report for the same period with channels seperated the CTR for each channel is much lower (2-4%) and even added together don't add up to the total that Adsense normall reports. The clicks also seem out of wack.

Very strange. My only concern is that I really would like to have confidence in the CTR as it is about the only stat I take notice of when tuning the (four) sites.

Perhaps I should send a letter to Adsense about it?

you mean average not combined i think?

... i can only think in your situation that as mentioned by Curiosity that you have ads that are not included in the channel report - do you use url or custom channels?

do the 'number of clicks' match - check if you are 'missing' some somewhere.

Thanks.

The page impressions are also wildly out. Much much higher when I view the channels seperately. That would explain I suppose the lower CTRs when viewing a report for channels seperately.

The earnings and clicks for both kinds of reports are spot on.

I tend to believe that the normal adsense report is correct and that for some reason the channels data is way out.

I will contact adsense support and see what they say.

do you have multiple channels on single pages?

google will count each as a page impression when viewing by 'channel'

but in the overview it will count a page as a page (eg if there are 3 channels/units showing on a single page - it will only count as one page view not 3)
