About 90% of the sites I build are now are done with CSS-P. I position content portion of the code first, then the navigation, then the masthead and footer then the adsense. Using absolute positioning I make the page display as you would normally expect it to.

Does positioning the adsense at or near the bottom of the HTML file have any effect on what ads are displayed?

Although there's no solid ground, it seems like things work better if you place the code naturally into the content. By that, I mean without CSS but there, just within the content text in code view.

However, I'd agree that this is almost impossible to do especially if you've got tones of pages and data to work on.

I also see that it gives more importance to the page URL. Just make sure that your page names and titles contain the right keywords.

LOL, are you questioning what I said on the radio show today ;)

I have done testing of this, and footer and navigation links can definitely skew your AdSense ads. I always suggest putting AdSense right next to the true content of the page (ie. the article) rather than placing it at the bottom.

Take a page and create a few copies of it, and place the AdSense in various positions in the content, and see what happens to the ads ;) However, in some highly competitive areas where a single keyword or keyword phrase is heavily bidded on with a high ad inventory, it may not be as noticeable, because those keywords tend to overpower anything else on the page, regardless of positioning.

I like to put it near the on topic outbound links or affiliate links on the page (code). Adsense seems to pick up that and focus on it. It does mean more non-adsense ways to leave the page though. When I use tables (gasp!), I like to put these things in the same cell.
