For me, adsense on forums have extremely low CTR, I think you may be better off running banner ads.

Use forums to get people to your main site(the one with money-making Adsense ads).

my forums basically are my site, I think I have optimized my adsense ads on my ipb forums. My ctr is averaging about 1% which I think is pretty good for forums.

I have Adsense on my forums, and most of my sites are pure forums, and I earn a good income from it (not enough to give up the well paid full time job, but not far off)

For best results, put your Adsense after the first post, before the replies. This is what Google recommends for forums and has stated during their webinars.

That is, if the forum is your site(this part is my personal opinion). I currently only use forums to complement existing sites and have found that they simply drag down my CTR and ECPM overall, better for me to not have Adsense on them at all.

In most cases low CTR will mean low eCPM, but not in all cases. While CTR will be a bit lower on forums, I have found it to be quite profitable on my forums. Lots of pageviews...;)

gggmicrosystems,

1. Create a header and put a small 468 x 60 banner in top left. Prime hot spot.

2. Depenting on your menu style, place a 728x15 Adlink under or above your menu and make it look like the menu (this works best for me and earns a 72% share of my revenue)

3. Place a 728x 90 banner at the top of each topic/forum page but below your menu (if it is on the top of the page). Just about eye level so it is the first thing viewers see.

4. Make the adverts black text and the background the same as the primary colour of your site. It blends in but still stands out.

I have employed these tactics on all 14 of my forums and they all do well. Maybe luck, maybe not - I don't care becuase it works for me.
