Second, we've introduced an 'Alternate Ad' feature to your account. This new feature allows you to monetize your ad space in the event that Google is unable to serve targeted ads to your page. From the 'Ad layout code' page, enter the URL of a static image, clickable image, or ad server, and AdSense will load your ad instead of Public Service Ads (PSAs). Should you choose not to specify your own ads, PSAs will continue to be served to your page.
I was absolutely surprised and thrilled - this is excellent news, and I will quickly replace the Public Service Ads with other content - maybe ads, but probably other "good sites" I feel our members could support, like the Hunger Site or similar ones.
It is amazing to see this move by Google: basically, they do give their competition (other ad networks) a place in their ad space, if they cannot fill it. But they also give a lot of power back to the webmaster - it really will be a fun exercise for me to fill this space with interesting stuff.
This, however, also makes the question that has popped up on the forum again and again much more relevant: alternatives, now also supplements to Adsense. Myself, I did play around with CJ a little bit, but I would _love_ to get sticky mails from some of you experienced guys which service you think could be useful for our travel related community.
Enjoy adding your "own" ads to Adsense!
