Any category you are willing to work with.
Remember- you only get out of it what you put in.
You may find a high-paying niche, but if you aren't constantly updating, what good are a few two dollar clicks, if that's all you get? ; )

Don't bother researching high paying keywords and sectors - write a site on something you are familiar with, do it well and see the income grow. Every man and his dog are writing sites aimed at high paying keywords / sectors.

Remember that advertisers can pick and choose what sites they advertise on now. What would you do if you were an advertiser? If I was the advertiser, I may well be willing to pay a lot of money for leads. But I'd ONLY pay a lot of money for leads on sites that have historically proven that they can deliver me the leads that buy my product/service. I might generally advertise to the content network speculatively, but at minumim bid.

This advice might sound like complete bull****. My site is a very small, unlikely niche site, yet there are advertisers willing to pay good money to get good leads. Does 40c+ epc sound crap to you?

You don't have to target the areas everyone else it to make a good income from adsense - the opposite is probably true.
