Hi,
I'm very new to AdSense and
I have a website about widgets, but on most pages, widgets are not mentioned. I know it sounds weird, but the type of widgets my website is about require this behavior.
Anyway, I have widget-related keyword tags (<meta>) on ALL my pages, as well as widget-related titles (<title>-tag).

Here is my problem:
It seems that most of the ads (80-90%) are very off topic, except for the home- and the overview (navigation) pages, on which widgets are the main keywords in the actual body.

My question: What can I do to make widgets the main keyword on my other pages, too, besides putting it in the <meta keywords> tags and the titles? Should I add maybe one sentence in the actual body about widgets?

I hope you understand my problem and can help me with this.
Thanks a lot,
Sven

I've never heard of a widget website that doesn't advertise widgets... I mean I'm having a hard time visualizing this...

I know, its hard to imagine. Let me try to explain.

This is just an example: You have an educational website teaching someone how to use a computer. Now on one page, you talk about using the mouse (click, move, etc..)
On this page, there is nothing written about teaching how to use a computer, just how to use a mouse. So what you get is mouse related ads, no? But you don't want these ads on your webpage, you just want the computer related ads.

Maybe this is a stupid example. My only question is:
Would it help to put on the mouse-page for example one sentence (maybe in bold) that has computer-related keywords in it? Or would all the mouse content overwrite this and force mouse-related ads on this page?

Firstly I must admit to rarely looking at mine as I am in a relatively low traffic enviroment and don't want to affect my CTR/smartpricing etc.

That said I saw some really off topic ads on a few pages I had to make additions to the other day. There was no logical reason why, one was all shoe ads!

Remember this-
Your site will be spidered first on top, then to the left side of the page.
If you have a left column, start there.

Hope this helps.

Hi Heartlander,
thanks for the ideas. I'm trying right now how the following will affect the ads:
I put a fixed sentence about my topic on the very top of every page. I'll let you guys know how it worked out.

In your post you mentioned that although your site is about ‘widgets’, many of your pages do not actually contain text-based references to widgets. AdSense crawlers only target ads based on overall site content, not keywords or categories. Therefore, it is important to include text-based references to the subjects you wish to target.

If you’d like to attract ads relating to specific topics (e.g., ‘widgets’), I recommend including more text-based content about these topics. Especially, I recommend including complete sentences and paragraphs on these subjects to assist our crawlers in determining relevant ads to display.

Although this is the best way to improve your ad targeting, please remember that it may take 1 or 2 weeks before our crawlers re-index your pages and you notice any changes to the ad-targeting on your pages.
