Alika responded in the thread and said "I remember Jenstar in one thread confirming with the 'plex that CPM ads are not subject to smartpricing. So I think the CPM ads showing in the second, and not first, ad format is simply a matter of bidding - and the CPM advertiser lost the top spot to CPC advertisers."
This sounds logical. But what I'm wondering about is this: if a cpm ad appears in a second adblock, that's great. You can't possibly be in the position of losing higher priced clicks to lower priced clicks and it doesn't seem as though you might take a smart pricing hit the way some people reported when they tried second adblocks.
That is...as long as you get cpm ads appearing in the second adblock. What if you get discounted cpc ads instead?
This, of course, isn't something a publisher has any control over. But it seems that you run a risk by putting 2nd adblocks on all your pages. You might get cpm ads and add to your bottom line. Or you might get ppc ads, depending on how advertisers bid, and you could be exposing yourself to earnings that are not as favorable (losing higher priced clicks to lower priced clicks).
Am I seeing this correctly asa or anyone? It seems like it would be nice if you could designate that second adblocks only appear if cpm ads are available for the space.
