Publishers should be able to edit a single variable in the Javascript. We should be able to have a single string of numbers or digits of our choosing, up to maybe 12 characters.
I say 12 because that would allow us enough space for a date/time: Year (05), Month (07), Day (28), Hour (03), Minute (20), Second (25). I know there are shorter ways to fit a date/time in a string (timestamp, etc.), but I happen to like the number 12.
But not just for date/time... anything. If we could do this we wouldn't need channels -- we'd make our own on the fly without having to log in... and we'd now have an unlimited number of them rather than 100. It would be easier for us to track which pages on a huge site are converting. It would help us track down click fraud because if a single page is 10 standard deviations out of its regular CTR, we'd know.
Of course, we'd have to be given access to log files that showed each individual click... or if not that, at least some kind of aggregate for each unique variable. We don't necessarily even need to know the value of each click.
The bottom line is I think publishers need more information if we are expected to aid in policing click fraud. With these kind of detailed statistics we'd also be able to see trends and find out what works and what doesn't on a much more exact basis, which would mean more money for everybody.
Right now I have the same ad placement for my site template... but if I had more information I could use this data to pick the best placement for each page.
