Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but here goes.
Has anyone else noticed that sites with "adsense" in the primary domain name have no G adsense ads on them?
Heck, even adsense.com doesn't have them.
That makes me wonder if it's even legal to have a trademark name in a primary URL.
Sure, there are many with something similar to "blahblah/adsense-tips.html" and so forth, and that seems to be alright, as there are ads on those pages.

Any thoughts on this?

I dont think it will break the trademark of adsense to have a site called adsense-advices for an example. But hey, you can always check the legitimate of this with google adsense support.

I have a site with a different prominent Google term in the domain. I went to the trouble of contacting Google for permission before going live with the site and they did grant permission with a few stipulations. I was happy to comply. It may be that those sites that you found without adsense running may have been created without permission or that not running the actual ads was one of their stipulations.

Oddly enough, today when I checked my referrer logs I noticed the following entry:

gweb.corp.google.com/adwords-ext/html/policy/resources/Google_Trademark/Escalated_Domains.htm

Looks like my domain has made it on a Google hit list! I feel so honored... I'll let you know when the goons show up at my back door :-)

i would definitely contact support before launching a site with a google-trademarked term in the domain. i know someone early on who had their adsense account yanked for exactly this reason. it was in the early days of adsense, so they may have loosened their restrictions, but i would definitely contact support.

As several of you have mentioned, publishers must receive permission from Google in order to include Google Brand Features on your site or in your domain name. This includes using the term ‘AdSense’ in a domain name.

If you would like to apply for Google permission, or wish to learn more about what is considered a Google Brand Feature, I recommend visiting:
