Message Too Old, No Replies

Would subminimal messages on a page be allowed?

Somebody asked me if I knew if a page that flashed for instance,"Adsense ads are good for you", would be a violation of the TOS?

probably so.

Seems like a common sense one, as it would be drawing attention to the ads.

You could always email the adsense team to find out an official answer though.

Such ads would be not only subminimal but subliminal.

;) Couldn't resist.

I wonder how long it will be until that unidentified someone begins an "I've been dumped by AdSense" thread?

Why can't people just honor their contracts with Google instead of looking for workarounds?

Even if that ploy were allowed by G, somehow I can't see it doing any good. -Larry

Hi James –

I thought I’d clarify our policies with regard to the example described in your post (i.e., a page that flashed the message ‘AdSense ads are good for you’).

This type of message is prohibited by our program policies, as it encourages users to click on the ads appearing on a site. This policy applies whether the encouragement is direct or indirect, blatant or subliminal. The reason is to prevent artificial inflation of advertiser costs, which in turn assures the long-term sustainability of the AdSense program.

Thanks for asking,

-ASA

Interesting idea you have though. There must be a way to send subliminal messages that would be OK.

I expect its all in the presentation!

Sticky me your home address.

I just want to send you a little something... don't know why... do you like home-baked apple pie? ;-)

And people wonder why there's a lack of sympathy for publishers who get themselves kicked out of AdSense. Of course it's a flippin' violation.

Hey... here's a subliminal idea...

I could work one of these sentences into each of my articles somewhere... wouldn't be hard!

"When a new student sees a clique of kids hanging around the schoolyard it adds to peer confusion..."

Or how about this one:

"When a dung beetle encounters a click beetle the ensuing battle adds merit to the phrase 'pick on someone your own size'..."

(Okay, okay... I know... what a lame attempt at humor.)

Not sure if clicking on adsense is as primal as sex and death - how many people in your audience would understand the command? Well, that's all for now, I'm off to get some popcorn at the theatre.
