OK I started this thread as a poke at adsence... on one day recently it counted 10,000 page impressions on one page. Now this figure is normally 1,000 for the entire site.

I checked it through awstats and no extra traffic had been reported. So I thought it was a mistake.

Then using the channels I found the page it referred to. So there was one page with a huge hit rate for the day.

Could that page have been cached somewhere on the net, accessed from there and therefore awstats didn't record it, yet the adsence did?

If so, then can our stats actually be out signifigently because of caching, with the adsence the only real record of page hits?

Its interesting... anyone else experienced it?

ps: I found the link using my "last visitors" feature which lists the last few hours of hits on the site by address, sure enough my page had been picked up in a thread on Fark.com, which said about the thread that "Farkers have clicked on the above link 33488 times".

So it must be cached somewhere along the way .....
