How do you know which ads give penny clicks, or more?

How to find out which ads to boot and to keep?

The placement of ads on your site depends upon, so far as I know:

1/ How much the bidder pays
2/ The CTR they achieve
3/ The quality of your site

An advert which has a high CTR but low bid is not a problem for you - it will increase your clicks to make up for decreasing the payment per click.

So long as you have a quality site, look right at the bottom of your adsense units. Right at the bottom of the bottom adsense unit, if you have more than one. Those ads are either low paying or irrelevant to your site - perhaps you can guess which it is by looking at the ad text in the context of your page.

Finally - remember that the ads you see are not the same as seen in other countries.

im a bit confused, i have qualitly unique content,

but im looking for the last ad, say out of 5 that appears, which is probably the cheapest paying per click or an ad that is irrevelant won't be paying much as well? correct?

That's more or less what I was saying. If your site doesn't perform well for advertisers you may well end up with all low paying ads, but that's another issue.

Can you please tell us how one actually gives certain advertisers the boot? Obviously it has something to do with filtering, but what is the mechanics of doing this action?

AdSense allows us to block advertisers by URL. Look on the AdSense control panel.

Be VERY careful about doing this. As Jenstar and others have advised over and over, unless you know what you are doing, adding advertisers to your block list is more likely to reduce your overall income than increase it.

Even if you could identify and block low-bidding advertisers, wouldn't that have the effect of displaying ads from even lower-bidding advertisers (i.e., the next advertisers in line for the ad slots on your pages)?

I would only use the block tool if they are a direct competitor or a blatant scam, in which case you can use your own moral judgment. Sadly, I choose to let them click. Am I going to hell?

I think it also depends on the number of ads you've already served up for a specific keyword. The EPC goes down the more ads you serve.

or a blatant scam

I get quite a lot of these on a health related site, and I both block and report them. I don't block sites which I believe are low paying - because I believe that Google would be serving them to me if they didn't perform well.

Hi kazisdaman –

Thought I’d jump in here...

As hunderdown said, we recommend using caution when adding URLs to your filter list, as filtering too many advertisers can lower the ad inventory for your site and thereby decrease your site’s revenue potential.

Another alternative is to use channels to see which ad units are performing well, and to optimize the placement, color scheme, and formats used on your site. You can read more about how to set up channels at:

[google.com ]

Also, you should check out the AdSense Optimization site located at:

[google.com ]

This provides tips designed to boost the revenue potential of an AdSense site.

ouldn't that have the effect of displaying ads from even lower-bidding advertisers (i.e., the next advertisers in line for the ad slots on your pages)?

Some times lower paid adds my be placed first by google for 2 reasons. Relevancy and "special publishers" . By special publishers I´m talking about adds like "Expedia, travel to X" , they get great placement but IMO pay lower than regular adds. Perhaps we should block these "generic adds".
