Adsense targeting problem

I was running a plain html site on a commercial hosting site with adsense with no problems. Now launched version two of the site, built in xsl/xml, and transferred the dns to a private server. Placed the adsense code in the site about 18 hours ago but ads shown are now all PSAs. My previous experience of adsense is that targeting is faster than this.

I've tried the google.blogspace.com adsense test tool and it only comes up for PSAs for the root URL. Does this mean that there's something in the code that is stopping adsense from providing targeted ads or am I just being impatient?

Do your logs show any visits by the mediabot yet? If it is going through the whole site, it might still be too soon.

Could the bot be having trouble with how the content is delivered (ie. any dynamic URLs) Is your robots.txt is allowing the mediabot? These are the most common problems with untargeting ads. But it can sometimes take several days with a new site.

While Google spiders new pages within hours, it can take two to three weeks for pages to again be spidered after they are changed. During that time, they may show PSA's or generic ads. Might this be the problem?

The URLs are mod-rewritten to static - www.domain.com/123.html - and we currently don't have a robots.txt at all. Maybe we'll just have to wait. :(

Still waiting - Help file says 4-6 hours to spider new sites for Adsense (different from the normal web indexing Googlebot). The site's in my profile if anyone wants to have a look and offer any divine inspiration... :)

I checked out your site, and nothing jumps out at my as to why you aren't getting targeted ads, and you should be getting them by this point.

Is the mediabot showing up in your logs? Was this a site that was previously denied, but then accepted later?

It is probably time to drop AdSense a note and see what's up. It is possible that your content just might not be targeting any available ads.

Haven't checked the logs, but the previous version of the site (similar content but just fewer pages of it in a very plain HTML form) was accepted first time early on in the program and has been showing perfectly targeted ads for 110 days.

Have e-mailed Google but yet to receive a reply.

John - it is 4-6 hours (or less) for a new page, once the AdSense javascript runs for the first time. After that, if the page has changed, it can be two to three weeks before the page is again spidered.

I made some minor changes to a lot of pages on my site (to improve their appearance), and underwent much the same thing as you are now experiencing. Google gave the the two to three week figure in response to an inquiry. Ultimately I had to wait it out.

If you have added *new* pages, they should be spidered relatively quickly, even if you have to wait for the old ones to be revisited.

We are finally seeing some targeted ads on the site. All of the URLs were new - previously www.domain.com/widget.htm, now www.domain.com/12345.html
