How do you get more CPM ads, or is that out of your control?

How come two days ago my 'eCPM[?]' was $7.32, over measly 56 impressions small site, but over 1500 impressions today, it was $0.53?

"eCPM" and "CPM ads" are two different things.

- eCPM ("effective cost per thousand") represents what you, the publisher, earn per 1,000 impressions. It's derived by a simple calculation (total revenues divided by impressions in units of 1,000).

- CPM ads (more properly called "site-targeted CPM ads") are ads that are sold to advertisers in units of 1,000 impressions. Advertisers get to choose where the ads run, so the only way to get more of these ads (or to get any site-targeted ads at all) is to have a site that appeals to advertisers.

BTW, Google could probably avoid confusion if it used the term "RPM" (revenue per thousand) instead of "eCPM" (effective cost per thousand), since publishers are concerned with revenue while advertisers are concerned with cost.

Okay. So eCPM is just a reference for me, on what 'I' made per 1000. Right?

So are you compensated per click, or for impressions, or a combination of both, depending?

Seems like 1 click generated 50 cents on one page, but on another, 8 clicks was only 40 cents.

So thats part of the confusion.

the higher the eCPM the higher the earnings from each click.
