My CTR fluctuates greatly. Yesterday it has increased approximately 500% over the day before yesterday.

Is this normal? It happens to me several times a month.

Does your traffic fluctuate too? If so that could explain it--you could be getting different kinds of visitors at different times of the day or week.

Do you get a significant number of clicks per day--say, over 100? If you have a small site, one or two click-happy visitors can skew your CTR very easily.

Check it with the forumula

6.318*(Page Impression)^-0.5047

This shows the normal range of up and downs
based on the number of impressions.

When You have very few impressions, according to the formel, big up and downs are usual

jh, Could you explain that formula?

I see that you multiply page impressions by the first number, but what does the "^-" mean?

And I wanted to add another point--ad targeting can cause fluctuations too. CTR on my site varies by a factor of 3, and I chalk at least part of that up to fluctuations in the ad targeting. Some days are better than others.

Yes, when my CTR goes up, my traffic also increases. The bigger the traffic, the bigger the CTR. That's how my website seems to operate.

jetteroheller, can you explain that formula?

^ means power
- means minus

When You have a very small sample, it's natural that CTR changes much.

Think You would have only 1 impression per day.
In this case, You would have many days with 0% CTR and somd few days with 100% CTR
