Hi,
looks like the site-targetted CPM ads are being rolled out - or at least actively beta'd.

Has anyone seen any on their sites yet? Is it going to be possible to work out the CPM? i.e. is it worth turning image ads on (is there any circumstance under whihc it might be useful to actually turn text ads off on some pages). If anyone has any feedback...

There's a new thread about the Site Targeted Ads [webmasterworld.com] in the Adwords forum that talks about this from the advertizers point of view.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but my CPC has been on the up today.

How would you know it is a target CPM ad?

In the AdWords thread, someone posted that this is for images only. Too bad, because I don't allow for images on my site. Maybe I should--if they are targeted to MY site, they probably wouldn't be whack-a-mole blinking horrors.

[ How would you know it is a target CPM ad? ]

good question - in theory you'd guess it would be possible by measuring impressions v earnings (maybe clicks will not be counted) - pure conjecture - but I'm sure it will become pretty evident after a while if you are targetted and the ads are showing...

Last week I reported that an image ad from a big bank in the UK ket appearing on my site, regardless of the content. I wonder if this is site targeting.

Do you have to have image ads enabled to get site targeted/CPM ads?

Rodney, according to the discussion in the Adwords forum, the CPM system is only for image ads right now. so i cannot imagine that CPM image ads would be shown on your site, if you have images turned off.

my understanding is that eventually they will allow for text ads under the CPM model.

Does showing the CPM image ads require

google_ad_type = "image";

or will

google_ad_type = "text_image";

also work?

I don't want to specify image ads only, then if none are available nothing at all appears. I'd like to show image ads (at least as a trial), but have text ads as a fallback.

Yes I do. I turned them off for some channels were I needed the text ads because they were highly targeted, but I kept image enabled everywhere else and now that Bank Banner shows almost everywhere on my site.

that's interesting Petra. Without breaking the TOS - has showing these bank ads had any effect on your stats?

The minimum CPM is 2.0$
It would be fair, if the minimum CPM would be the average CPM of the entire site, or a channel, where you would be advertising.

Yes my eCPM has gone up from mid 20's to mid 30's in the last week but I'm not sure that its because of the bank ads.

True ... but advertisers may think twice in using CPM ads if they see the average CPM of my site :o(
