Aggregate v Channel Data

Why do the totals for channel earnings data not tally with Aggregate earnings data?

On most days my earnings are different when presumably the channel and aggregate totals for earnings should tally.

Any ideas?

because aggregate includes the addition of all channels together, and channels will overlap.

For example, if you have these channels:

widgets.com
widgets.com/red-widgets/
widgets.com/blue-widgets/

the aggregate will add all 3 of these up, while the total amount earned is actually the number from widgets.com channel only.

How much are they off by? If it's only a cent or two or three, then that's rounding errors--our share of a click presumably is calculated in fractions of a cent, but those aren't displayed.

If it's more than that, do you have a channel set up for every AdSense page on your site? If you don't set a channel for a page, it won't be reported in the channels pages, but will be reported in the aggregate.

Thank you both.

I do indeed have some overlapping due to pages being monitored as well as sites. That explains it :-)

If you don't create a channel, wouldn't it still come up in the aggregate but you wouldn't know any information?

peewhy, yes, the non-channel pages ARE reported in the aggregate, but if you do a channel analysis, they aren't.

A simple example: You have a 100-page web site, with one AdSense unit on every page. You have nine channels, each consisting of ten pages. The channels have no overlapping pages. Each single page earns $1/day.

An aggregate report for particular day, in this example, will say you've earned $100. If you do a channel report, and select all your channels, the report will say you've earned $90.

Overlapping channels, the actual cause of this particular problem, are another issue....

but by not creating a channel, Google still picks up the transaction, attributes it to your aggregate...but it won't show in the channel ...?

It won't show in the channel report, that's right. Only shows there if it has channel code. The aggregate report will, of course, include it.

That's what I thought and wondered if it could be also a solution to the original post.
