Adsense Report Question

Hi,

I just started using AdSense, and a bit confused about the reports page. So, I would really appreciate some clarification...

Below is the report for one day (just made up the numbers due to TOS, but they are proportional to actual numbers):

Date: May 28, 2005
Page Impressions: 5000
Clicks: 10
Page CTR: 1%
Effective CPM: USD 10
Total Earnings: USD 50

Can you please explain the following:

1. As far as I know, ECPM is "Effective Cost per 1000 impressions". And, my earnings is always exactly = (Page Imressions * ECPM / 100). My first question is: I thought google only paid for clicks but not for page impressions, why I am getting paid for ad/page impressions?

2. Although I have 10 clicks here, I am not getting any money for the clicks, but just for ECPM?

Am I missing something here, or is there any mistake? BTW, my page is supposed to show only text ads (google_ad_type = "text").

Thanks.

You are getting paid by the click.

eCPM is just a number to show what you'd be earning IF you were getting paid per impression. It's a number used to compare Adsense pay per click performance with programs that pay per impression.

Can you please explain, then why my total earnings is equal to (Page Imressions * ECPM / 100)?

If this is the money I would be earning for ECPM, where is the money I am earning per clicks in this report?

Thanks...

Correction:

Total Earnings = (Page Imressions * ECPM / 1000)

Typed hundred instead of thousand before! Sorry...

Your earnings from the clicks are the earnings in the report. They don't actually show a calculation of average CPC, but you can caluclate that as simply USD/Clicks = averageCPC.

They back into CPM (That why they call it "EFFECTIVE" CPM) by doing the math from your ACTUAL earnings from your actual clicks.

Good luck.

I still remember the days I was being paid dollars for a click. *sigh* You should consider buying a dozen of valium packets as you're a new adsense client.

With that said, I wish you goodluck.
