I guess this post could also be in several other threads as well, but I thought about putting it here, since the best thing for Adsense publishers is targeted traffic.

Does anyone have any experience with doing press releases, and do you think that this would increase CTR, as it might likely get more spot-on traffic than anything else?

I wrote and published a couple of different pressreleases when I launched my site.

Some printmedias wrote the story, but it did not convert to many visitors. I used two different wire services and I can not recommend it.

My marketing is now focused on link-sites and blogs. This month I have had more than 10.000 visitors from just one link on a blog. (you will never guess where :-)

Of course this takes time and every email to blog editors has to be written personaly.

If you write a press release just make sure it's keyword infused just like your web site so it's easy to find by people searching for your topic when it's in the archives.

I guess there isnt much to loose in writing a press release that doesnt generate. But writing a keyword-infused one, which is also laden with Adwords keywords should be a good idea.

I have a tech-related site which is getting great targeted traffic, and does well with Adsense, but, only gets some 1800 page impressions -- so there is only so much juice I can squeeze out of it at the moment.
