Does domain name affect adsense targetting?

I've come up with a list of domain names that are unregistered at this point. I'm deciding between two. I'm wondering though, does the domain name effect adsense, page rankings, etc?

For instance, if my domain name was "www.BarkingOutLoud.com" and my website was about dogs would it hurt rankings by not having the word "dog" in the domain name? Would it do better if the domain was "www.LoudBarkingDogs.com"?

Once I know I'll be able to finally choose one of the two names from the list.

Last year sometime I was revising a site page. The page already had Adsense code on it.

The page was located on my local machine (my laptop). Related to its location (my computer) clearly this page was not in the Google serps nor had it ever been evaluated in any way by Google.

I would have expected that while reloading and reloading this page during testing that the Adsense block would show PSA's. Instead I kept getting ads for movies, specifically some Arnold Swartzenegger movie that had the leters "t3" or such in it (the movie was "Terminator 3"). My site has nothing to do with movies.

I was getting these ads be cause my page URL included:
t3_blue_widgets.htm

Clearly the page URL played a very significant role in determining what ads were displayed (at least during that time frame when the page was new and unknown to Google/Adsense).

Domain name may be less "important" than content. But still the "importance" of domain name with significant keywords can not be just ignored. It do help at some level to have a domain name with important keywords, when all other things being equal. Better try to hyphenat if possible between keywords.

You can always have keywords in url by using not only domain name, but subdomains, directories and file names, so keywords in the domain name itself are not a must, at least not (yet) for Google.

Some weeks ago, AdSense brought on my pages stored on my own computer targeted ads.

They had been based on the URL

d:\internet\my-domain.com\theme\theme.htm

Also my-domain.com contained the main theme of the site.

So with 3..5 keywords in the URL, Google produced great targeted ads.

I've just bought my first web domain. The input you guys gave was helpful in the decision.

I have one more question and then I think I'll have it covered for a while.

I read that you should not apply for more than one adsense account. I applied for adsense, and got approved yesterday, with a blog site. Now that I know better I'll be using an actual hosted website. Do I just paste adsense code into the website to get it goin? Do I have to notify goolgle again or anything?

Nevermind my last post. I just found the answer on the 17 page of this site, hah. But yeah, thanks everyone for your help.

In case other newbies come across this thread, when you have another site to set up all you do is paste the adsense code into to get adsense running. No need to notify google. Just make sure your page is within the google terms of service (TOS) otherwise your adsense campaign could be shut down.
