Just wondering if anyone has received notification of an August check being sent out.

Post it in a white envelope and people start screaming, "I thought it was junk and threw it away". Google can't win either way ;-) .....

I'm not suggesting a plain unmarked envelope - just send it the same way every other affiliate cheque arrives - with the company name on the envelope so WE know what it's about, but without making it obvious that there is valuable info contained.

Is anyone throwing away their cheques from BeFree or Amazon etc?

Also, it's a cheque - not cash - for crying out loud! ......

I agree that a cheque SHOULD be pretty safe - it is hard for someone else to cash it - but someone could easily steal it believing it was a pin number, or some other kind of credit card or bank account info - and then throw it away when they found it was a cheque which they could not cash.

Does anyone here need the hassle of getting google to issue a replacement?

Tiebreaker,

Why would someone want to do that? It's a sin... :(

Got cheque!

Not been to the bank here in the UK with it yet. But am led to believe that there is a cost attached to cashing it in, is this true? And does anyone know the percent charged by the banks in the UK for this service?

Many thanks,

Have you ever known the banks to do anything without a (substantial) cost attached?

If you look back you will see a number of threads about costs. Depends on the bank and how you do it.

Barclays charges me one quarter of a percent with a minimum £9. Means roughly you pay £9 till cheque is over about $5,500 then its 1/4%

Some banks do it for free if you keep £2000 or so in your account, which works out about the same if you look at the lost interest.

Oh well, I would have been foolish to eXpect anything for free... Cheers for the info cornwall

I was pleasantly surprised, flat rate €1.5/check. But the 3-4 weeks clearance really bum me out.

Has anybody else got expwerience with caching in a european Citibank branch? I have german citizenship and I'm thinking I could set up a citibank account in germany (no citibank in my country) and then do a bank-to-bank transfer from there into my operational accounts.

I'd think citibank-to-citibank should be quicker.
Hey, lets list the clearance times for our banks, it might help others to find a bank that works fast:

Volksbank Malta, europe, clearance time 3-4 weeks, cost of accepting USD check into euro account: €1.5/check.

Bombay, India : clearance time 3-4 weeks ; cost 1/4% of the total amount.

I think Midland (sorry, HSBC!) charge £7 a cheque.

Hey guys,

While double checking my account (to see if Septembers check has been sent yet - who knows?), I noticed that the August check (cashed 1st Sep) still has not cleared.

According to my bank, they are still awaiting the US bank to OK the payment, and there is nothing they can do. Which seems strange, since most US checks clear within 3-7 days.

Anyone else getting this? I'm in Spain, using one of the bigger Spanish banks. Solbank tells me not to worry, but hey - it's cash!

Hmmm, as a banker myself {granted it has been years since I have had to deal with checks or how they are cleared}, I have to say that your bank might not be referring to Google's bank or more specifically to Google's agent bank.

A foreign bank has established agreements with corresponding banks in the US, this bank may or may not be the bank that the agent that Google hired for payment uses. Therefore, the arrangment would be.

Foreign Bank -> Correspondent Bank -> Google's Bank

Depending of the size of the correspondent bank, there could even be a theoretically fourth or heaven forbid fifth financial institution in the mix. It is not as simple as the system of clearing houses used by domestic banks. Overseas webmasters really need electronic funds transfer implemented.

In Canada, they say up to 30 days for a US check to clear. I had many checks clear much quicker, but some whould take nearly the entire thirty days. On the upside, once the bank knew me, they never put a hold on any of my US checks, regardless of the dollar amount :)

Hi loanuniverse,

Thanks for that tip, I hadn't really considered the whole correspondent bank aspect of it.

On the plus side, after some discussion with my friendly bank manager (in other countries, they send you a cheap calender - here, you send them a bottle of good brandy at Xmas!), I can probably get an account setup with a branch they have in the U.S. Let's see if this speeds up the process! :)

When I went into my HSBC bank yesterday in Indonesia they initially told me they couldn't cash cheques unless I had had an account with them for at least a year which I haven't. They soon relented on that but were very suspicious of the cheque. They wanted to know what Google was. I said it's a search engine. Blank faces. "Like Yahoo" I said thinking everyone knows Yahoo. "Like Yahoo" the bank manager, a no doubt well-educated woman, with very good English language skills, said back at me.

Well in the end they took it but only said they'd look into it and see whether they would be able to cash it or not. Not holding my breath.

Hi folks,

I'm in Busan, South Korea and getting a little nervous now as the check still hasn't arrived. Anyone else in South Korea/SE Asia with or without checks?

All the best,

Jeremy

I'm in Indonesia and haven't received the check either but I really wouldn't worry about it. It will come.

I'm in the midwest US and just got a first check 10 days ago, so I wouldn't worry yet. Hope you have weathered the typhoon OK, Jeremy.

I think what is relevant is how long it typically takes to receive first class mail from the U.S. If it normally takes more than two weeks, it's too early to be concerned.

Hi,

Well it's good to know others still haven't got the check yet anyway. Thanks also for mentioning about the typhoon, my ocean view apartment got the full force of it and we evacuated for fear the windows would implode. Thanks to Google AdSense my apartment is new and built to last - others weren't so fortunate. And I found out about AdSense at WebmasterWorld, so you could say WW saved me from the typhoon!

Cheers all,

Jeremy

jeremymgp,

Would you post a message if you receive the check?
How much does it cost to clear it in Korea?

I am planning to send the check to Korea in the future.. So it would be nice to know in advance what to expect.

Thanks,

Hi itisgene,

Sure I'll post when I get the check, but I still haven't got it. South Korea is actually a pretty efficient place and except for the typhoon there's no reason why I shouldn't get first class mail in 7-10 days. Letters from my family in the UK never take more than that to get here, and it really is getting a bit late in the day. Hang on in there or send Google a mail - any suggestions?

All the best,

Jeremy

Haven't had my Adsense check either. It hasn't even been issued. I'm in the UK.

Also MIA is the last two CJ payments and the latest Shareasale check. None of them even issued! I'm getting just a little fed up with everyone's casual attitude to paying on time.

You're all talking about your AdSense checks for the month of July, right? The August checks won't go out until the end of this month I believe.

I got mine two days *before* it showed up under Account Information! (Last month, the two joyful events happened on the same day, if I recall correctly.)

I'm in the U.S. and I have not received mine yet. I suspect they were all mailed at the same time but sorting and other hops the mail takes can result in different delivery times. No different than getting any other mail that may take a week or longer.
