Smart Pricing and Multiple Ad Units

Can we figure this out?

I am experimenting with putting 3 ad units on some pages of an old site of mine that gets a fair amount of traffic. While I'm hoping the income will go up, I'm concerned that my increased ad impressions per page will somehow trigger (or increase) smart pricing. Does anyone know if there is a relationship? AND can anyone tell me why smart pricing kicks in on one site and not another? Thanks guys :-)

Smart pricing applies everywhere. Its effects are just more obvious in some places than in others. Effects can be subtle or drastic. And keep in mind that smart pricing apparently "kicking in" suddenly may be something else entirely.

If you want to see what works best on your site, you've got to test. Start with one ad unit per page. Let it run a while--a few weeks. Then set up a channel that's essentially a sample of pages on your site, and put 2 blocks on those pages. Compare after a few weeks. If that channel overall performs better than the one-block channel, put 2 blocks on all the pages, and let it run a while. Compare to your baseline experience with 1 block. And so on.

Every site is different so you can't go by what others have experienced. I've found more than one ad block per page not to be a good idea on my site, while others do great with three.
