Weird Trend

Jump in earnings in day

Hey all,

I understand stats should be examined over the full 24 hour period but I have been noticing a weird trend over the past few days.

Firstly, a majority of my site audience is in the States and traffic picks up at around 5 pm GMT (So did earnings). Over the past few days I have noticed, whilst examining my stats during the day, that my earnings suddenly jump during the day at around 2 pm GMT and the eCPM jumps to over 9 times the final value it reaches by the end of the day and earnings reaching over 50% of what it reaches by the end of the day with impressions at only 5% of the days total.

Basically the earnings jump but by the end of the day things kind of even out. I have mentioned this in passing on the forums before and thought it may have been high paying clicks (this was on the first day this happened) but this has happened for a few days in a row now and I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing something similar?

If only this eCPM value would continue throughout the day.

Regards

AdSense reports aren't in real time, and impressions and earnings aren't always in synch with each other during the day. So I wouldn't attach too much importance to what you're seeing. It could just be the result of how numbers from different types of servers are harvested and combined into reports.

Thanks for the reply.

Could the high earnings today be from yesterday as yesterday was quite a "low" day in terms of Adsense earnings?

Thanks in advance

You get a lot of oddities with stats. Like this similar case [webmasterworld.com].

I have now exceeded yesterdays whole day earnings and traffic is still low due to the time in the States. My impressions are also at 1/8 of the full day amount average impressions.

CPC is currently also very high. Yesterday I decided to remove Adsense from my forum of my site as it wasn't converting well enough and I added a few pages of content. I don't know if this increase can be accounted for by these changes.

I don't think I'll ever figure out how google works.

Removing AdSense code from pages with a CTR that is significantly lower than the rest of the site sometimes seems to give you a boost in smart pricing. I assume CTR is somehow factored in, and because the CTR for the site as a whole improves, the perceived value of the site goes up. I've done it myself three times--took a low-performing channel out, and both total earnings and EPC went up the following day, and stayed up.

My question is: can adding adsense to a site that has a lower CTR screw up your well-performing CTR on your other site?

This might be a good strategy to use when YPN comes out. Take adsense off the lower ctr pages to boost adsense epc and still capture earnings via yahoo ads

I only have one site, but the reverse does seem to be true there. Whether the AdSense algorithm would be applied across all sites in an account or would be applied to each site separately, I don't know.

It's a very scary proposition. If you have a site that performs well, do you want to risk damaging your epc by adding another site? Would be nice to get some confirmation on this.

You could test it.
