Other publisher on my site?

Is this bad?

I run a hobby site and recently a regional club has formed and the club wants to make a mini website to promote themselves. I offered them a subdomain on my site theirclub.mysite.com. I have been running Adsense on my site for the past year and now they are asking if they can run their ads on their subdomain.

I am not planning on running my adsense ads on the subdomain but I am afraid of possible bad things that could happen. For example; what if they start clicking their own ads and get booted, will this affect my site in anyway? Do they ban the domain and not just the publisher?

I would hate knowing that I got booted for being a nice guy and offering some free webspace to a club that is trying to get formed.

Thanks

Personally I wouldn't take the chance unless you get the "all-clear" from G$ that you won't be held responsible for their actions.

I would ideally, want to have the right to any advertising dollars on the pages you are giving them just to cover hosting and maintenance/tech.

Of course, you have to weigh the value of their goodwill against any potential profits.

Probably it is ok because they will use their own subdomain which is also separate URL.

But better ask Gguys about your responsibilities in this case

I would say no flat out. What business do they have running ads on that subdomain anyway? If they want to turn the site into a moneymaking enterprise, invite them to get their own domain and hosting: net cost about $10 a month.

You have no way of controlling the quality or content of the site or the ads, yet, it being a subdomain of your site, users will ascribe some measure of responsibility to you.

Satisfy your philanthropic urges by offering them a link, instead. An outbound link is less likely to come back to haunt you.

I also run a hobby site and occasionally get a philanthropic urge. I will host someone's site on my server but I always buy a domain name and get them their own IP Address to shield me from anything harmful they might do, even if it's inadvertent. It's a small price to pay for peace of mind.

As for the ads, I recommend you set an upper limit for the amount of income they derive from the ads. Once that threshold has been reached they either have to start paying you regular hosting fees or find someone else to host their site. Then you wait and hope they do become self-supporting because then they'll be able to stand on their own, so to speak. And you'll be able to take pride in knowing you helped them get off to a good start.
