While <g> routinely accuses people of fraud, who is watching them? Who is to say what percent they are paying? It seems that the fox rules the hen house here. There are no hard stats available to publishers at all. We are just subject to whatever they deem appropriate to pay us, with no accounting whatsoever.

I don't think they come out and accuse anyone. They say fraudulent clicks have been detected and might end up canceling the account because of it. The fact that the google/publisher relationship is a loopsided one in favor of Google is well known. The only way it will change is if the following happens:

1- Google decides to acomodate publisher's demands out of the goodness of their hearts. I seriously think we will get more tools eventually, but not as many as we would like. I would seriously enjoy going over detailed stats from my site just for my personal satisfaction.

2- A considerable number of publishers decide to leave the program and force Google through the force of market pressure to change its ways. I would not hold my breath for this to happen.

It is a matter of choice. I am willing to put up with reporting shortcomings in return for having my first check cover my hosting fees for a year. The fact is that for some of us that had advertising in our sites before the adsense program, advertising was sometimes more of something else to play with than a source of income. Adsense has changed that for many people.

The question is, do you want to manage your business or have Google manage you?

Since I want to manage my business, and the one-sided Google AdSense TOS leaves those revenues in the hands of Google, I've elected to hold my AdSense ad income to a very small percent of my revenues. If they give me the boot, I'll still eat and go on with my life.

I went one-step further mayor, I don’t use AdSense nor would I even _consider_ using it until they change the TOS.

Routinely? How do you justify this statement? Even on this forum the discussion of Google banning a site for fraud is not common.

I think the whole thing to AdSense is to help publishers make some extra cash on top of our existing business model.

As long as people are not joining Adsense because they think Google is scamming them, that's cool with me.

More revenue for me.

As long as the end CPM rates are higher than other stuff I can put in that space, I don't care what the revenue split is.

If Google added to the TOS that we had to wear pink Pyjamas then I would be first in the queue. I know that sounds sad but money is money...

It is the first advertising network that works for my site - that is, it provides ads relevant to users on a site which is just too esoteric for its competitors. Maybe there's also an element of conceit involved, but I want ads which complement the site, not ads which clash with it or detract from the content.

I didn't carry ads before AdSense, although I tried affiliate book links a few years back (with an extraordinarily low return on my time investment). If AdSense were to go away, I would remove ads until something comparable came along.

Adsense is no doubt great for some people, and also do doubt not as good for others. If it were GREAT for everyone, then the big companies would have things hosed up anyway, thus making it not so great for everyone!
