Have read a bit about 2 dollar per click etc. Is there any resource which outlines which companies or types of industries / fields these are?

Thanks,

Short answer:- no.

Longer answer:-
Here in the UK we are 8 hours ahead of Googleplex time. I've logged on to my stats at just after midnight 'plextime and seen 1 click and $10. Yesterday it showed 1 click and $2.01.

Because the stats say this, it doesn't actually mean that was the cost you got for that click. Stats update with a time lag (still) and delays happen. It may well be that it's lumped together various unnacounted for earnings that have been delayed, giving the effect of large $$ per click.

You can't ever guess what the high paying keywords are, or who the advertisers willing to pay high cost clicks are. Therefore building a site around what you feel is a high paying keyword, targetted at who you think is a high paying advertiser doesn't work. What is high paying at this moment in time may have changed by lunchtime.

We all get days when click value is up, and we all get days when it's complete pants. It's a roller coaster, and the only way I personally look at it is how it averages out over a week or longer, and look to see how it works out month on month.

You're pretty much right on this at least in terms of figuring it out from your adSENSE statistics. But if you have sites in, let's say a specific industry/topic that you know like the back of your hand -- ie. you are an expert in it, you are also probably going to know who is paying what for what in terms of advertising. I know I do for some topics related to my some of my sites, including which actual companies are paying for what amounts (I also advertise in the same systems they do (overture and adwords), so I kind of have to know.

As far as trying to build sites in "high value" topics when you know very little about the topics, I agree with you.

You think you know but nobody except Google & the advertiser itself know what the actual costs are.

Yes, you are right of course. I know who advertises on my sites, and I pretty well know who are the ones willing to pay for referrals. I've been running the main site for 5 years, and would say I know it, and the others in the same sector pretty well by now!

I think our O/P is probably looking to construct a site for maximum income judging by some of the questions asked in various threads, hence my reply.

Go to Overture's site and start going through the steps to set up an account. There's a keyword tester and a bidding tool that shows you not only which companies are bidding for each keyword, but exactly what they're bidding.
