I am new to Adsense so bear with. My ECPM has been fairly constant less than 20% flux from day to day, however, yesterday my ECPM increased 200%. I've heard that toward the end of a pay period google will go back and adjust earnings (not clear exactly why), is this what I am experiencing here? Or was it simply a new advertisers paying an incredible EPC that dropped out after 24 hrs?

I don't know the answer, but my ECPM has skyrocketed in the past week too, although my pageviews are also up a lot (my site is driven by certain business news events).

I think there is something to the theory that more impressions yields a higher payout.

It fluctuates.

There's no reason, other than the absence of a mechanism that keeps CPM constant.
