If you apply for a job, would you mention your business websites that use adsense?

I make X,XXX with adsense so I think I won't.

I don't want them clicking on my ads for nothing...

What's your opinion on this?

Can you just tell them you were a sole proprietor with a website and briefly describe the site? Maybe not even give the URL. You certainly don't have to tell them you made the money via AdSense. I doubt most people or interviewers will go further than maybe asking the URL if it isn't given or ask how much you worked on it and what you did. These interviewers have to watch their tails so they don't get sued for being to private.

One of the best pieces of advice I've read here since joining AdSense is don't tell anyone what you are doing - family, friends, strangers.

That way you can save yourself a lot of grief if someone decides to help you along or hurt your business.

Having a business on the side is a negative.
Telling anyone about your website is risky.

If it is that important that people see your work then get another domain and exclude robots and remove adsense.

My job and my webmastering have no connection with each other. My webmastering does not affect my work, and therefore I don't see it's any of their business that I'm earning money from my hobby.

Unless there is some conflict of interests such as your website is a direct competitor for your possible future employers customers, then it's your business.

I would not be inclined to mention it at interview personally.

I would just mention that I make money with my website, not how.

Edit: But only if the job you are applying for is looking for someone who knows how to design and build websites that make money. Otherwise, your potential employers will question your dedication to THEIR number one priority (themselves).

I agree with HM. Unless the sites add value to you as a potential candidate leave them out of the picture. If the job is tech related I would simply mention that you have coding experience in HTML, PHP, etc, etc.

The last company I worked for (large U.S. corp) actually made us sign an ethics agreement where we were required to declare any conflicts of interest, one of which being any outside business interests.

In the absence of any such requirement, I wouldn't even consider mentioning it to an employer, unless, as HM suggested, it was related in any way to the position on offer.

very wise and interesting reponses... Thanks

It's a job as a webmaster/systems analyst at a university.

I'm already working at a non-profit right now.

I must say, that from my experience non-profits are the most friendly toward entrepreneurial types like myself - once you avoid conflicts of interests.

I'm a college student and put it on my resume for an internship this summer. We talked about it for the most of the interview and I got the job so I have a feeling it definitely helped. I didn't specify how much money I was making but mentioned it was making a profit and how much it has grown.

Beside AdSense, I have my internet promotion company.

I hold all my old clients, but make no effort for new ones. What comes comes, but it brings more to make new content.

My wife starts translating my sites to English.

I agree with the rest that if it is not relevant to the job there is no sense brining it up. There is an exception to this rule though. If up to now you have made this your full time job, by keeping it silent you will have holes in your resume in regards to dates. This is obviously a big no-no.
