Fastclick reselling AdSense ads?

I have just been to a site that displays fastclick ads in banner and skyscraper formats on their pages.

Just to see what would happen I hit refresh on the page, and google Adsense premium ads appeared in the skyscraper instead of the image skyscraper that was there a minute ago.

I hit refresh again and the image skyscraper came back and the horizontal banner turned into Adsense ads.

Now these Adsense ads were of the premium variety and instead of the "ca-pub..." client string in the url they had "ca-fastclick...".

I wonder if Fastclick is the only ad serving company that has included Adsense in their mix....

I have noticed that fastclick have been doing this. However I have a few websites with them and the google 468X60 only appears in some of their available ads....

This is a little obscure if you serve 468X60 from fastclick and then Adsense you can end up with two lots of adsense showing. One from Google and one from fastclick......

Having 2 lots of Adsense is against the rules....

it is also against the rules to put another companies PPC ads on your page. If you use adsense you are not supposed to have ANY other ppc ads on your web page.

Fastclick was doing this before adsense was available to the public.

Do you mean text ads? I don't think picture ppc is a problem.

Burst and Fastclick was offering Adsense to their publishers as CPM a few months before Adsense was opened to the public in June.

Mauricio - I sent you a sticky mail with the rate. I don't want to get into trouble if I reveal the CPM here (they're supposed to be proprietary :o)

My understanding is that Google is not accepting sites which contain excessive advertising, and that we can't have other companies' text ads on the same page with AdSense -- that doesn't mean we can't have ANY other PPC advertising. That would be unrealistic.

I queried Google about competing text ads right after being accepted into AdSense. The reply pointed to the Adsense policy page, but went on to indicate that it was okay to display text ads which are clearly marked and differentiated from Google AdWords.

The following is quoted from Google Adsense's general FAQ:

"If you already display Google AdWords ads on your pages via an ad network, you can still join AdSense and run ads on your site through our program. However, you cannot display more than one set of AdWords ads on the same web page. This constitutes double-serving, which Google does not support.

It's your responsibility to work out any contractual issues that may arise with your ad network as a result of serving AdWords ads directly."

I believe Fastclick is one of the so called "ad network" that "display AdWords ads on your pages." So I think there won't be a problem as long as you don't put both Fastclick and Adsense banners or skyscrapers on the same page.

the rate was appalling....I did "Google Contextual Text Ads" at Burst and the cpm was about a quarter of what I am getting doing it directly thru adsense. Google were smart to use burst and fc to test out the thing for a few months prior to the big June launch. The main ad companies have now had to put up with the ad publishers switching en masse to adsense since June.
