Reality check - TOS v. Common Practice

Some thread starters are upset by the "read the TOS" posts, I'm seeking that exact information.

Is making the Advertisers' URL "hidden" by changing the color to match the ad background now such common practice that the rule is just not enforced? Or are there publishers out there getting kicked/chastised for this?

Thanks in advance for any recent experience you can provide.

You are not allowed to hide the URL by making the URL the same color, or a similar color, as the background.

However, not all ad units display the URL.

It is not a common practice since AdSense will not allow it to occur. If you attempt to hide the URL by changing the color to match the ad background, AdSense will ignore your color and use one that contrasts with the ad background.

Yeap, what Never_Again said is true. It's a wonderful piece of formula to determine what color to present. The old adsense javascript has that formula, but not today.

Do you mean after you put the code on your pages, or while selecting colors in AdSense's clor pallete thing... Their customization thingy lets me select the same color for background and URL.

Even if you put the code colours in your javascript on your page when the javascript is called at Google's end - if the colours are not allowed one will be changed to make it readable....

Jenstar, are you talking about premium publishers? Because the ad layouts I typically see without URLs are the ones that should be showing URLs.

I am referring to regular publishers. If there are not enough ads to fill an entire ad unit, in some of them you will see URLs added to the ad.

Yes, if you select colors to hide the any of the text (either by choosing the same or similar colors), Google will automatically change the colors to the text shows when the ad unit is displayed on your webpage.
