Let me see if I have this right...

The more competive your keyword, the more you get paid per click?

I run a music related fan site and notice we only get on average around anywhere from about $.03 to $.10 cents per click...

Understandable, but do people that run like a Casino site, or site with highly competitve terms get upwards of like $5 bucks a click?

people that run like a Casino site

First, Casino sites are not accepted into AdSense. From the AdSense Policies:

Site Content
Site may not include....
Gambling or casino-related content

Second, AdSense is designed for content sites, not sites that are eCommerce sites.

Judging from your last few posts, it sounds as though you are trying to figure out a site you could do that would generate the biggest AdSense revenue for you. Using casinos as an example, don't forget, while you might think a content site about casinos could bring in a lot of revenue, don't forget you also have to drive traffic TO that site, and get those visitors to click ads without encouraging them in any way. And casino related keywords are some of the most competitive, so you would also have a lot of competition to get those visitors to your site in the first place.

There are many people who are generating that kind of money per click, but they likely aren't going to volunteer specifics ;) If you are wanting to build a site for AdSense, you are best to start with something that interests you, because you would also have to write a lot of relevant content that would show the AdSense ads, as well as getting the traffic there. Perhaps a site somehow related to your current site, but with the possibility of higher earnings.

Hey again, Jenstar. :) You hit the nail right on the head there. I'm trying to think of an idea for a new site that will be a "money maker" this time, where as my current site is more of a hobby site.

So I thought I would build my next site with adsense in mind.

But your definitley right about making something that interests me, more than making money...

Don't know how long I could really make a site about "mesothelioma" before getting really bored... ;)

I think I need to find some "middle ground" for a site that interests me, but can also be profitable.

It might even make more sense to try to find a subject that there isn't a whole lot of sites about, but gets searched for alot. Rather than try to get in on a business like Casino's for example, where it would be (nearly) impossible to get to the first page on Google for.

And then even if the sites subject doesn't have high bids at the overture bid tool, atleast you might be getting millions of hits with $.05 cents a click... Rather than maybe 10 hits a day with a casino site, that you might get $5 clicks for. :)

Thanks again for your help and ideas, Jenstar. :)

Not to mention the fact that SEOs for sites targeting mesothelioma have written just about every conceivable article imaginable on the subject.

But your definitley right about making something that interests me, more than making money...

Not exactly - making money is good ;) But don't do a site on mesothelioma or casinos because you think that is where the AdSense money is. But by all means, find your area of interest that could bring you in the most money for you.

Don't underestimate where the money is, either. I am aware of some hobby sites that are bringing in significant money from AdSense. And its surprising that there is even that much money in AdSense available on those tiny little subject areas ;)

True, I thought it would be a good idea, since I don't have an idea for the site I want to create yet, to see if there were high paying keywords that interested me.

Think I can say "Mesothelioma", "data recovery" and "casinos" are far from that, hehe ;) so now it's back to the drawing board, but it was interesting to try. :)

What I meant about hobby site, by the way, was that I run it for fun, as a hobby of mine...

Nothing better than making a little money off something you do for fun anyway. ;)

Cheers

Yes, that is what I meant when I said hobby sites. The ones that were a labor of love, a personal interest to the site owner, and didn't earn enough to even cover hosting. That is, until AdSense came around :)

Overture have stated that their average CPC is 37 cents. It seems to be generally believed that Googles should be the same sort of figure _ nobody has come up with a reason why it should be substantially different
