I'm trying to figure out if a recent grey barred site was banned or not.
The google ads on the site are still relevant, will they change to public service ads if it's banned?

No connection between the two things. Anyway isn't it the white bar that signifies being banned from Google's index?

Yes, PR and adsense ads are not related as far as what I know. But I don't know how much we can trust this pagerank information. My site shows PR4 on Google's google bar in Internet Explorer, but PR is grayed out in Firefox pagerank status bar extension. Grayed out makes more sense, since the site is nowhere in Google SERPs since almost a month.
