I'd be interested to know which Adsensers use the URL filters... has it improved your stats/earnings?

I'm thinking of filtering out eBay advertisers -- is this generally considered a good idea?

I guess the only way to check is to give it a trial, but I'm interested to know other people's experiences on this subject

Puting useless ads in the filter was my first big action to improve earnings in February.

It was a very successfull action.

I put the same list also in the URL filter for the search results. This improved also earnings at the search results.

You bet it helps! Definitely. The best way to do it is to use the Preview tool, then you can just check the ads that you want to filter and click "Show Selected Urls".

A box will pop up where you can edit out all the "http://www"s as well as the extraneous stuff after the url. Then paste it into the filter.

Works a charm.

Your question got me wondering if publishers are allowed to run affiliate ads for Ebay on the same pages that are serving Ebay adsense ads.

I just read this thread about filtering URLs, thought you might be interested.

I use the filters very sparingly. I do try and bar religious fundamentalists, but my real problem is all the ebay nonsense ads.

If the ebay ads that appear via adsense were to be a real articles for sale, then I wouldn't filter out ebay - but they aren't articles for sale. "New and used Bank of England - plenty in stock" "New and used vasectomy reversals - large selection to choose from" are ludicrous, and of no use to anyone.

I think filtering out the nonsense has probably helped, but it certainly hasn't reduced earnings for sure.
