How much Revenue?

I run a webite that gets about 500,000 page views per month. It is a very niche site for musicians.

I am considering usign Adsense instead of the aweful banners I am using now and was just wondering what revenue (roughly) i could expect.

i.e. does anyone have a ball park figure of the money generated per 1000 pages with adsense for a targeted audience?

Revenue with AdSense varies enormously from site to site. Why don't you do a test, since it doesn't cost anything to sign up? Sign up, pop the code on 50 pages, watch what happens over a week or two.

There are many variables, but it largely comes down to the value of the click. What's a click worth to your potential advertisers?

It's likely to do as well or better than any "awful banner", and looks... well, not so "awful". Give it a try!

Just try it for a few days. Nobody can give you exact figures so there is only one way to find out.

If it's about music you can probably expect about $400 - $600, maybe even more if you get good traffic.

expect anywhere from $1-10 per 1000 pageviews. depends, of course, on the keyword worth of your topics.

anyway, go for it. it will definitely be worth much more than those banners.

Does that mean each visitor views in average 50 pages? Is that a forum? In that case you'll probably have lower revenue.

Not necessarily true, if the forum is a useful "authority" resourse it would do very well.

According to awstats my forum gets ~10000 uniques a month and ~300,000 to ~500,000 pageviews.

Before I added an articles section to the site and tons of articles I made enough to get a gumball everyday. A big one not one of those itty bitty chinsey ones.

After I added articles and added a ton of them and learned how to get my stuff indexed properly I get enough to go out and get a big mac every day. No fries No coke. just a big mac. Maybe I should use the dollar menu at mcdonalds instead.

I get 10K+ uniques a day and I'm guessing (based on my daily ca$h) you will probably pay your hosting bill and get a nice bottle of scotch each month, but thats about it unless you have some real high paying ads for music.

Relying just on Adsense is silly. You may want to consider also reselling music for someone like amazon as I make a serious chunk of change every month from them, and toss in a couple of music affliate programs. The cool thing about amazon is visitors follow a link for some industry specific book off my web site and next thing you know I also have commissions for everything from baby furniture, to microwave ovens and a digital camera :)

Keep working at it, you'll be meeting me nightly at the steakhouse before you know it and won't even look at the prices when you order.

Once I figured out that making money via adsense was about trying my best to make content that poeple desire I really started making gains. All that training and time to learn how to make cool widgets and I find out its about how well and how much you can write in the end.

Oh well.. I got a great day job as a result at least :-)

I know we're drifting off topic but my biggest issue I think at htis point is the inability to let go of my one main site I have been working on for ages.

Its a labor of love for me. I know I could make more money on other sites and I even have plans too, but I just want to make this site.... my first one pay for itself at least.

you may need to tune your site content from plain music to music copyright issues, protecting them and so on. See the major jump in revenue . Talk about legal points related to music. ;)

Based on what people have said and what people are saying in other forums, it seems as though Adsense is worth pursuing.

My site is a community-type site and the forums are very active, so revenue will be low with the current content.

However, I plan to research the highest paying subjects such as music copyright and law (thanks Sobriquet) and start producing original content, based on these. From what I can tell, not only is content king but content targeted at a high CPC rate is King.
