I was wondering if anyone has been in this boat before? My click through rate is best on my main page, so adding additional content to internal pages doesnt seem the greatest idea to me, as there is already plenty of content. I just need more traffic coming to my main page.
I also dont really believe that adwords is the trick either, as it doesnt seem plausable to me that someone would click an ad just to click another ad on my main page.
Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful. I dont mind spending money and i know good old fashioned SEO and link exchanging would do the trick, BUT:
im wondering if the purchasing of targeted traffic, email or some other form of marketing would be effective in this situation?
Since beginning adsense a little over a month ago I have learned a lot reading these forums. My goal is to get to a level where I can make 100$ a day consistently...I've read in another thread here that many found just making the first few dollars was the hardest...not really the case for me! Its making it to that next level thats proving to be the struggle!
(p.s. not interested in replies related to how i shouldnt be mentioning my adsense stats) :)
Don't obsess with the home page.
Write your pages so they stand on there own for their subject matter and become entry pages.
If a page is two screens long then split it into two pages.
As of feb 2 my home page no longer exists in google but entries to subpages keep my company afloat.
And, don't forget to try the large rectangle smack dab in the top center of the pages (if you haven't already)
Guess its time to hire someone to do the article posting! And to sailorjwd yes i am a big fan of the rectangle embedded in the articles!
I guess you have read about experimenting with banner sizes and positions to maximise your clicks? Large rectangle centre of the page works best for me, and given a bit of time and thought it actually fits in well with the look of the site.
One word of caution - as you add banners to your pages give each banner a channel. Reason being you can then check that each banner is productive. Recently I added banners at the bottom of the pages as well as the top, thinking that I would increase my earnings, despite the fact that the clickthrough rate would probably drop.
Unfortunately the second banners rarely got clicked, and I think smart pricing reflected the overall CTR to give me a lot less per click. For some reason the extra ads seemed to mean less clicks as well. Maybe visitors don't like seeing too many ads on a page.
Anyway, since I removed the unproductive banners, the ctr has gone back to what it was, and both the number of clicks, and click price is now excellent.
So my message is only put banners on a page if they earn their keep - take 'em off otherwise!
I have about 1000 articles that need to be put online, but i just dont have the time to do it.
Find the time. You're leaving money on the table. :-)
On a site of reasonable size (assuming that it's crawlable), inside pages can make a huge difference in traffic and income. On my own site, the vast majority of search referrals are to inside pages. That's been true since the days when I got most of my traffic from InfoSeek and AltaVista.
The antidote is surely to expand your site. When you have 20,000 visitors/day like me, you feel more secure that individual clicks won't kill you. That said, I'm not making that much more than you—I've got low-paying keywords!
when i do start listing articles i'll will for sure be including a borderless rectangular article box.
in response to the ceo's questions, my page views arent the greatest, overall im very disappointed in the traffic so far, i'm just trying to reach the sites potential.
suidas i'm not one to be paranoid, i email google when im worried about something and my stats are pretty consistent. If i was getting 20k visitors a day id easily be in the ups club...hope some day i can make it!
