Do not activate Adsense ads: the instructions worked before.: [support.google.com...]
But currently these instructions no longer work, you have to ask to review again, a waste of time:

they are already paying by cpm in majority of publishers via admanager, the change is to unify adsense and admanager, dont need to panic, cpc are counted fom cpc anyway

@Breathofair33,
I imagine the same way for youtube ads, although they don't mention it in the article.
The way I figure is, earnings are getting worse day to day, so let's see how this works, for the time being I am hopeful.

Agreed.
About every 2-3 years there's a perceived 'Doom and Gloom' scenario that pops up on these threads because of Adsense changes. Cant say that, in 20+ years, any of it has ever come to fruition as I'm still here.
Here's hoping its a positive change at best - or a neutral change at worst. Status quo can be a good thing.

Now, I'm just going to assume this, but I do think that publishers will only get paid for "Active View Viewable" impressions, otherwise why would advertisers pay for their ads not to be seen...

it is obvious and healthy, what do you expect? to be paid for unvisible ads?

November has not been good. Still down 14% from last November. (sigh) Trying to supplement my Adsense revenue with other options. But the US economy is not looking good for 2024. :-(

Yeah it’s been a tough month, just when I thought I was going to have a decent month (Xmas advertising), it looks pretty bad.

My RPM is 50% down compared to October. I suppose it will start to pick around 15 of November. I hope…

Yeah this month is a worse than expected. Maybe Google really is going downhill with the current state of the world right now?

I see any one explanation for the changeds Currently G is telling us that they will go to pay for views only. That does only make sense if they then offer a Pay Per Action model that remunerates publishers who have users buying really the advertised products. Paying for the numbers of view only is to inefficient for all. Just my view

I think November and specially December will be horrible months for publishers as Google and advertisers transition from CPC to impressions early next year.

"Early next year" could mean anything from January 1 to April 30. A more specific doom date would be nice.

@ember
agree, but maybe that depends on when they have enough inventory, which might explain why they haven't set a date.
This is a huge transition for advertisers and google alike and it might take some time until we see results.

Worst than last month. Guessing start of 2024 will be the worst it's ever been. If they move to CPM is worst I'm selling all my sites and retiring.

Reading the discussions on the level of Adsense earnings, I get curious - would anyone care to mention the size of their audience? In terms of monthly/daily traffic or pageviews? I think this would be relevant for two reasons. One, the bigger the sample, the more accurate are the statistics. Second, interesting to see if there is any difference in how G treats different sizes of publishers. I somehow feel that large publishers expect a lot more consistency in the earnings, rather than just being OK with whatever G decides to pay. Would be interesting to know at what level of traffic that different treatment begins.
I can start: I'm around 2.5K daily visits and 10K page views. October earnings were around 80% lower compared to 2022 and November I don't know, because I removed adsense.

@Skips "November I don't know, because I removed adsense."
Thanks for the laugh. I'm gradually removing adsense as well and replacing with house ads for now, which will easily be converted to paid ads by actual advertisers over the next few months and beyond.
For those "terrified" out there, consider the alternative: creating your own rate card and selling ads on your own. From my former life as a newspaper publisher, that was standard. Also standard was visiting businesses in person and convincing them that your publication was a good fit and would generate new business for them. Of course, this was on a local basis, dealing with small businesses where the owner, manager, or decision-maker was present.
Nowadays, it's actually much easier. Emailing potential advertisers instead of personal visits means you can contact advertisers in your niche around the world, direct them to your site and rate card with links, maybe even have a form and payment processing function. That's my plan, anyway.
Also, how many people complain of being watched, tracked, etc. Counting clicks, reading stats, many of which aren't accurate. I'm going with a monthly rate and I think people will appreciate it because they operate on a calendar, not per click or RPM budget. The big plus is freeing oneself from the Google-verse and all the nonsense that goes along with it, like the Policy Center, targeting, etc. I am happy for the change. Plus, with G going to a RPM standard, it makes my platform somewhat more competitive.
Change is good. Maybe old school will become new again.
