AdSense Earnings and Observations - August 2023

Side note. It's August 1, and school is already starting here in the USA...certain states—one more month of the AdSense dead zone.

$3-$5 rpm last year now and continuing. Anyone write to Google on this? They need to come out with a statement as publishers are all clearly suffering and their network is in serious jeopardy

CPC down 32% for the last 30 days compared with last year.

I keep hearing companies are worried about uncertainty in the economy so reducing advertising spend. Economy still seems to be ticking along from what I see - not looking forward to seeing what happens if/when it does tank....

August is taking a dive. I thought things would get better since July was better for me.

The issue is that Google's ad revenue numbers are doing just fine and increasing. We cannot expect our numbers to increase proportionately because more websites enter the mix each year. For individual websites or website owners, the downtown can be caused by many factors like a decrease in traffic, CPC decrease, RPM decrease, or something else. The first thing I'd compare is the traffic. Has competition cut into your traffic and, thus, revenue? Aside from that, we are subject to the laws of supply, demand, and economy.

The month of August was starting ok, but then this past Monday (7th) every thing took a turn for the worst, horrible day today and horrible week.

I can say that yesterday I saw some considerable ad spend across different industries - prob just a one-off for me but it was nice to see the network reach close to its potential for once!

Yesterday I had 231 clicks and my RPM was $3.90 on all properties. Is this a cruel joke?

Staggeringly low RPM/CPM. The RPM is so low you can only see it under electron microscope.

I’d easily take that RPM. That’s over DOUBLE mine.

Of course, we no doubt are in different niches.

If its page RPM (which no doubt previous poster is referring to) its also highly dependent on ad density. So only metric worth comparing is ad impression CPM.

The has been THE worst day since I started with Adsense 15 years ago, RPM, CPC and CTR at an all time low, just sad.

In Europe, August is a holiday month for whole industries, this is usual a big problem if you don't work in tourism.
Entire factories are closed.

In the US school season has begun?
In Europe will start ar 1-10-15 of September.

August is a dead month.

-50% earnings compared to last year August, the traffic is the same, if not even a bit higher.
I wonder what is going on, maybe people are not advertising that much anymore.

Does anyone use another ad network besides Adsense? If so, which one? And does it perform better or worse than Adsense?

Nothing performs better than Adsense. I have used everything, it seems like.

1. There are really no more other networks.
2. I use ad manager for some sites and the classic Adsense for others.

Both are low now, but Adsense has wild variations, like 50% from day to day.

Thank you for your answers.

Adsense earnings are really low now.

Trying new things, like removing ads from within the content, using anchor ads, side rail ads, and
Vignette ads.

2 or 3 years ago, my main income came from 1 responsive ad (with a fixed height of 250px) placed below the title and the first or second paragraph.

Now, my earnings are very low. RPM is really low. CPC is sometimes okay, and sometimes really low.

My YouTube earnings are also 1/3 of what I earned before.

I had a lot of empty ad slots in the first two weeks of August. Today, it looks like they are becoming filled. It looks like the USA advertising is starting because some schools have started.

Filled ad slots not always are good thing. If they pay you 1 cent per 1000 impressions, I rather have them unfilled.

Fortunately with my main site, filled slots come with higher CPC’s.

I only use one other service now on pages where Adsense won't let me place ads. Tribal Fusion/Exponential.

I have custom channels set up, and I've just discovered that when I upload an updated page, Google - or something - is stripping out the name of the channel. The name still shows up in the reports, and it's only happening on one site. What is that?
