AdSense Earnings and Observations - July 2023

Month is starting out very bad, so far it's the lowest earning day since I started with adsense, many moons ago.

@allhearts This guy did a changes not right for the finally statistics in GA4. It sounds the same like you can manipulate the public stats use the Google Tag Manager.

@JeepersCreepers1, in my 20+ years of doing this, not every Google suggestion is terrible. I finally enabled auto ads a few months ago and it definitely helped.

@gatormark, you've never been dinged for arbitrage, using Google Ads to generate Adsense income?

Nope. I have used both Adsense and Google Ads (Formerly Adwords) for around 18 years. I can't imagine Google dinging you for using both of their products when they encourage it.

Question: Did you remove all the ad placements from your site when you enabled Auto Ads? I ask because I tried Auto Ads but left the current ad placements on the site, and it was just to many ads.

There are ads I do not use because I don't like the user experience. I never use side rail ads. I turn off anchor ads for screens wider than 1000px. Also, I don't use Multiplex ads. Aside from those few things, I let Google have at it!

@allhearts, I kept the old ad placements in place, but I only have two of them on a page. I should clarify that I had been using vignettes for some time. The in-page ads were what I turned on recently. That's what helped. I still don't use side rail or anchor ads. Those are just a bridge too far for me.

Question, my "Active View Viewable" for the top ads (above the fold) on my two sites dropped to below 50% (therefore clicks as well) in the last few weeks and has stayed that way since.

Not sure if we are allowed to share this information but just wondering if it's a just me thing or for others as well, if you can't mention numbers, is it possible to atleast say "Higher" or "Lower" for you?

I'm just trying to make sense of what happened and if it's only me.

Weird month. I was down at the start of the month, and now I am up 8% over July 2022...and this week is normally the worst week of the year. I hope that bodes well for the revenue moving forward. Have you noticed a positive change this week?

Nothing changed Indian traffic. Lowest ever earnings every month in 2023 since 2017.

@ember, I am in pretty much the exact boat as you. I have been using vignette for some time, I have two manual ads on my page, and recently turned on auto in-page ads. I also have side rails and anchor ads off. I noticed my RPM go up about 30%. However, most of that increase is due to CPC increasing, which I find very odd (I'm not complaining lol). It was a small increase in Page CTR, but the greatest factor in the higher RPM was due to CPC.

Can you please share what you've noticed?

Does anyone else see the new (CMP) notice on your adsense dashboard for EEA and UK users later this year?

I've never created a GDPR message, anyone else on the same boat?

@allhearts yup.. no way to turn it off.. the EU makes up less than half a percent of my traffic so last year I chose to not show them personalized ads.. Big red banner on top of my dashboard with no way to remove it.

@Pistoche, it was primarily an increase in EPC for me, too. The Active View Viewable metric has dropped with auto ads on, but it doesn't seem to matter (and I used to stress over that number).

@ember, thank you for sharing your observations. My Active View Wiewable decreased as well, I also used to put a lot of emphasis on it.

My hypothesis is that I wasn't using any ads above the fold and auto-ads is placing ads above the fold. These ads are contributing to the higher CPC, and more than making up for the decreased Active View Viewable.

I don’t know what happened recently but I’m up nearly $200 from last July. Up 63%.
