Has anybody recovered from the "GDPR/EU user consent policy" problem?

I implemented my own cookie popup solution a while back. But I got the "Ads are disabled ... EU user consent policy" thing anyhow.

I have read through all the threads here that cope with the issue of GDPR and EU user consent. They all seem to be only speculation.

Some people who never got their ads disabled guess their solution is ok with Google. But maybe Google just have not checked their sites yet.

It would be very interesting if someone here first got their European ads disabled and then reinstated after they put up a consent solution.

Then we would have some indication that the solution is ok with Google.

Anybody?

Implement GDPR/CCPA consent popup banner directly through your Adsense account. It covers GDPR, CCPA and possibly, if necessary, LGPD.

Take another look at the privacy policy on your website and update it if necessary.

I received a warning a year ago that I had to solve the problem within a month. Then there was also given a specific date until when.

At that time, the solution through the Adsense account had not yet appeared. Fortunately, after two weeks, a solution appeared directly through the Adsense account. As soon as I implemented it, I sent an email and it was confirmed that everything is ok.

That will surely solve your problem

I implemented my own cookie popup solution a while back. But I got the "Ads are disabled ... EU user consent policy" thing anyhow.

Does your "own solution" :
- offer the choice to refuse cookie?
- list usage of cookies and trackers?
- disable adsense until the visitor gave his explicit consent? (no call to the adsense js script)
- offer the choice to remove the consent ?
- give information and identify all third parties and how they use cookies and trackers? (IAB Vendors list , even if this list is BS, as pointed by EU privacy organisms)

I remind everybody that, officially, BEFORE dropping cookies, or any kind of tracking, the explicit consent from the visitor is required. As long as the visitor didn't click an approve/agree button, you/we , do not have the right to use cookies/trackers. (technically we can use cookies, as long as they are not used for tracking)

dolcevita:

When you use Googles own solution, does that mean you get the little popup scrolling into every page from the lower right?

I tried that and it completely trashed my site layout.

I would have to restructure all my pages to adopt the layout to cope with that.

Dimitri:

That sounds like you use a self made solution? What do you do when the user refuses cookies?

What do you do when the user refuses cookies?

I blackmail them, claiming I have sensitive information about them, and that I'll release them publicly, if they do not accept the cookies.

But if they insist on refusing the cookie, then I simply respect their choice, and do not include third party code, which are producing cookies, or using tracking technologies. So, for example, I do not display adsense ads. Instead, I can use self promotional "ads" , or ads I know are not using any tracking technologies (when they are displayed), or simply do not display ads at all.

A visitor, even if he is not earning you money, can still bring something positive to your site/business. If he can access your site, and sees you are respecting his choice of not being tracked, you give a good impression of your site/business. Also, this visitor, can spread the word about your site, and lead more traffic, among which some might earn you money.

The most important is to grow traffic. If you have a good traffic, you'll always find a way to monetize it somehow, at some point.

edit: my "cookie" banner, is not obtrusive, it's a banner at the bottom of the page, people do not have to make a choice, and still be able to browse my sites. In that case, I don't include third party codes.

@Multiverse

if you mean link in footer (mobile) or bottom right(desktop) 'Privacy and cookie settings' then I want to tell you that it must be present with every popup GDPR solution.

Namely, it was agreed that the visitors must have simple access, if they wants to change the consent they have already given or not, when coming to the website.

@dolcevita

I have never seen the footer in real life. So nobody seems to use the Google solution?

These threads are old, but it seems that the Google GDPR consent is the only solution that most people serving the GDPR area use as explained in these older threads:

There are many more, most are linked from these threads.
