What subjects worked out and didn't for a site or blog?

Hi,

I thought I'd make this topic to inquire, what websites or blogs have setup and didn't work out, particular subjects?

While I tried my hand at this, with not much content, I thought what I had used would be something, on technology, automated changes, like Redbox taking over from Block Buster. It hasn't worked for adsense approval, and probably won't whether a year or two or three. It was worth a try.

I think this type of topic has probably been made in the past, hey if it has, I don't know, it can't be that bad going in a circle.

Sounds like not enough content.

Publishing content should be approached like a full-time job.

Commit yourself to working X amount of hours every day to adding content. Make it your habit, a thing you do without making excuses about why you shouldn't.

Turn off distractions like phones and emails and just do it for X hours every day.

If you find it hard to write about the chosen topic then switch out to something that you're passionate about or that you enjoy a lot.

Years ago g (and most of the other SEs) withdrew support for so-called IT/Technology content UNLESS MAINSTREAM/AUTHORITATIVE PROVIDER. If that is the niche, move on to something else.

I was going to mention that the other day, but yes, tech isn't considered that worthy for advertising on the google service. I had the idea from a book, there was a lot of content, I used it as a spring board, and various other sources. I tried.

Who knows, it could of worked out, and only be $0.40cents. lol.

It mainly about self service, robots, that type of content.

Before that I tried lost in space film content, robot information. That was no good, I only had that up for three and a half months in total, the domain was on the search engine for over a year when I had it in my ownership.

I've closed the adsense account. I'll perhaps report back on my other site try.

Adsense is cruel. Google is cruel.
I wouldn't recommend people get into it.
It's very frustrating. You can be writting good content for years and some bot scraps everything and ranks in your place, and you disappear into excluded results. This happened to my girlfriend.
It breaks my heart.

Heck, even writing ebooks for Amazon generates a more steady revenue without much of the bs that is SEO and living off ads.

It is competitive.

I have the site up, partly, I have it on a wordpress blog, with a different domain, since I bothered to type up in Publisher, I thought hang on to it for sometime.

I will cancel the web hosting package, very soon, the domain is expiring.

I will try and the other site I have with namecheap hosting.

Well, the site I did have up is no longer up. Since technology wasn't an adsense approved subject, that went out the window.

I have been editing and adding some more for my political history site, the history of societies, not sure on this. I haven't tried the adsense, but I'm a bit stuck with it, the sources I used for some assistance are quite thorough and have a monologue feel to it, almost like the person is speaking with you.

I have my site on the web for more than half a year, I used page builder, I had to remove one page as I couldn't make it longer, I had to duplicate the home page and make that another content page. Page builder gives a functioning contact page, so I have an email working with it, unlike just using Microsoft Publisher program which doesn't have such a feature for an add in email address.

There are millions of technology sites running adsense successfully.
It's a great subject! But also very competitive.
So unless you are doing something very original that's drawing tons of traffic to raise adsense interest it won't get approved.

As long as:
1) it's not against Google policy
2) It's original content
3) Draws real organic traffic

You have very good chances of getting approved.
Some subjects are better avoided, like death/macabre or news (unless you are a newspaper).

According to others, it apparently is, it is already a winner somewhere else, so google won't approve one. And they are probably right, here and over there.

I picked the history one with certain keywords I found from searching for the web address, as I have seen other sites with history of conflict, and history of countries, they have ads, but they are old sites. So like with anything, those ideas have already been done and dusted, most likely.

The site gets about between twenty and forty plus visits a day so far.

Adsense is the last of your problems.
You wouldn't make any money off it anyway with that sort of traffic.
First make a successful site, then think of monetization.

That is the whole point, I have tried this road, and it didn't work out. From what I've read on here, and seen on the video site youtube, there aren't any guarantees, as many noted that it was a lot easier in the past due to the new setup of the time.

As some noted on here, a site may take time, not months or even a year. professor Ron guy on youtube said one year should be the goal before any attempt to apply for the ads. Some on here it needs to be a few years to get the numbers high enough. So there you have it, or we have it, any site will need time, and money. So its not really a possibility without that.

What one needs is passion, knowledge (of subject), audience (users), and new content on a regular basis. What helps is having deep enough pockets to do the necessary minimum, do some advertising (not all on the web, try radio, tv, and print newspapers, too!) and some single thing or event that will go viral enough to generate word of mouth and interest.

On the other hand, if one views the web and adsense as an easy source of income, that day came and went in the first decade of the 21st Century.

He, what you've stated is true.

One video on youtube months ago, which I corrected in a comment, the woman speaking in it said a site just needs three months. LOL!

The fact that you state money is needed and a considerable amount and time, shows it isn't worthwhile if the road is too steep. I probably preferred the tech one more than the history, but at least I know how many visits I got from this one due to the host having statistics. The one I used for the tech one very bare bones. That's all expired now.

I guess I would have to make a decision on whether to continue after the hosting and domain has expired, either to continue one or the one for perhaps another year. With the namecheap it was a good deal one for year only as a new customer. I kept my other on a free blog.

On the weekend the site got thirty two visits. For August, number of visits, 437, and hits, 789.

Obviously you've had a site back when it began, how long was it again that it got the ads?

Hmmm ... my PERSONAL hobby site has never had ads. HOWEVER, when I was contracting my clients ran them to varying degrees of success. Those who actually made money did NOT rely on g adsense, having product of their own and engaging in direct sales. Some took the alternative route and SOLD ad space to interested parties, usually monthly, half year, or annual contracting.

Been on the web since 1996, prior to that BBSs in the 1980s ... one can make a living, but one actually has to WORK at it. Ad slap generally won't pay web hosting if there's nothing else going on.

$100 a day (wherein a fortunate few have good success)
$100 a week (wherein a significant number enjoy income)
$100 a month (wherein profit begins and hosting bills are paid)

I inquired with a few sites in the past, and one responded, with the amount I stated the other day.

Be realistic, probably a week or a month is the most, not an hour. That is nonsense. And perhaps, the last, it isn't worth it, if somebody gets through. The point is to earn something within a recent time frame, not a year. Like a gamble, at the end of the day.

Income with adsense can be great, or iffy, or worse, disappointing.

Fact is you never know until you try ... and you can't try for just a week or a month to find out how it will really work... you need six months to a year. PATIENCE is the key.

Every time I see a question in this form, I think of “What should I major in?” which translates as “What do I study if I have no particular interests or abilities?” If a person is passionately interested in, or exceptionally knowledgeable about, some particular field, then that’s what their website will be about. And the person with no particular knowledge or interest will be trying to compete with that site. Doesn’t seem like a really solid gamble.

The myth that a website (of any kind) can make money by slapping ads on "cut and paste" or "scraped" content continues---like a curse. Personally, I like to dismiss all such queries ... then recall my beginnings and make the effort to guide a new to the web in at least a more positive direction.

As the years go by and the redundancy of same continues I wonder how long I will personally be able to be generous with time or comment.

It isn't about what to do, it is about what works, so one site about film doesn't, a film about tech doesn't, after a year. So on and so on. And unfortunately sources are from somewhere else, almost all the time, books or websites.

Something works out or doesn't. As already noted, the adsense isn't what it was, it is simply far too competitive.

As for earnings, the realistic outlook is where one earns over months, not a year or in one day.

I finally tried an adsense review on my last site I setup last year, and it returned with little content and the other one, about content no involuntary content or something. The views are under 1000 a month, so unique visits. I don't know, either continue and add more over time, and try and see if it works out. I am not sure a history site will be a success for adsense, not straight forward with adding, I hope what I've done even makes sense. I really do not know.

I used page builder, and was able to add the adsense code to every page, so included navigation, contact and privacy.

It s difficult to get advise from competitors here in the forum
The majority have got a decade of experience on contents nad not easy to come an say let s build a blog and make money out of it.
Adsense look for quality = you need to be an expert on your matter what ever sector you deal with.

They are 100 of niche subjects that are still free and need to be elaborated believe me.

Technology wasn't accepted by adsense, on that I didn't know how to go further.

I tried lost in space, just random stuff about it, that was probably going to fail from the get go.

As for the history site, classical athens, American history, different individuals who shaped them, power struggles, political history. Would a British history site do better, England and Scotland, battles or whatever, I don't know. I saw a site with google ads on one a few years back.

As somebody noted, it requires a lot of unique content to get approved, and adsense has completely changed.

As of today now 612 hits, unique visitors 120, So the average a month has been 600 to 700. In order for the site to have at least a traffic that would be accepted by the adsense program, would be what exactly? 7,000 hits a month. For last year, that was the amount of hits in total for it. 7,262. So 70,000 hits a year would be the number.

Adsense acceptance is not linked only to the traffic you generate but to the content in relation to ads; and history is really not something that is profitable for adsense.

Adsense is like a bank once an account is not profitable it is closed or it s not even accepted.

And Made for Adsense is also history….

There are some sites with google ads, to do with history. I mentioned a British conflict site example.

I guess you'd suggest a service site, something that even on the google adsense how to youtube tutorials, suggest, DIY stuff, you have pages of how to install flooring or something.

That isn't my area.
