A few days ago, I turned off Auto Ads on two websites. Google is still placing the ads wherever they feel like placing them. My only option is to stop using AdSense completely I guess.

I turned off personalized ads and they're still showing. Not sure why Google wants us to think we have some control when we don't.

@ember Well, I removed all Google ads early yesterday, and I also removed the ads.txt info for Google. At the same time, I removed all Google script from the head. Their ads are still running.

Have you tried to flush your browser's cache, as well as the website/server cache, if any?

In a similar vein you can alter the content, even minimally - a word or two in text, or capitalization where it is optional, just to ensure you are seeing fresh pages.

@riccarbi - I flush the browser cache daily, and I did flush the website cache at Cloudflare.

@tangor LOL I flushed it for them. I no longer use AdSense. I'm tired of Google calling all the shots anyway.

So I turned off personalized ads a week ago and they are now getting more impressions than before. I know they include remarketing ads, which Goo says will still run if personalized ads are off. It also says that "Personalized targeting type may include targeting based on your site or app, such as keywords, when Google doesn't have access to user data," which I think means that personalized ads still run but essentially become context ads if they are turned off. Only thing is they don't do as well as real contextual ads.
