It's June 2020. How is your AdSense trending in the new normal?

Really cant complain. My May started strongly, puttered out in the middle, but ended strongly to make up for it.

The May 4th core update didn't help things but I still have my head above water so that's good. Things could be a LOT worse.

I had a 50% clawback for May. I nearly dropped dead when I saw.

@dethfire - 50% clawback - you are doing something very wrong.
My clawback is less than 0.5% and my final pay has 5 numbers.

Really cant complain. My May started strongly, puttered out in the middle, but ended strongly to make up for it.

Same her.
My problem is the yoyo effect.
Today is looking extremly bad, for some unknown reason.

May was 23% down compared to last year, mainly because of low cpc and ad coverage. Traffic was up by 10%.

Clawback stood at 2%.

There was a June 2nd drop on all advertising fronts, not just Adsense, for me. Things are getting even more sketchy. Too much turmoil in the world. I'm afraid the next quarter may drop to nothing.

I think some spend was pulled due to Blackout Tuesday - it's unfortunate but I think June will be better than April or May as we are all slowly reopening. Normal is just far away.

I can't express how lucky I feel that I don't solely depend on Adsense income. I don't know what's going on but not only do I see my earnings drop throughout any given day, but huge losses when a deposit/payment is made. I can be at $XX.XX at one point in a day and then find myself at $X.XX later on. So they already removed some of my earnings.

Then I look at my "unpaid earnings" - which I imagine is my next payment - and a tremendous amount of my earnings are gone. My actual earnings in April were 66% of what my estimated earnings were. My actual earnings in May are 50% what my estimated earnings were. What next? Will my actual earnings in June be 33% of what my estimated earnings will be?

@mentat I haven't changed the way I do anything over the past several months. I can't imagine why I would be seeing this kind of clawback. I've been using Adsense since the very beginning...

The end of month clawbacks are frustrating, in part because the daily clawbacks are often worse. My daily clawbacks are in the 60% range. Then I get another 15% taken at the end of the month.

May was okay, still low compared to last year, total clawback 0,95%. June looks promising, the RPM has been remarkably higher today than it has been recently.

Guess I'll share my pathetic update:

Very low clawback for May. Lowest earnings in maybe 6 years. Already low due to the pandemic, but May's algo update has resulted in at least a 90% drop in Adsense revenue. So I'm not even in the conversation, anymore.

In conclusion: lol. Hope everyone else has a decent month.

Talking about the yoyo effect, today revenue is very, very low as ecpm/cpc.

Page views: 90.4K (Never better)
Clicks: 620 (Too bad, I don't know why)
Impressions: 140K (I think is good)
CPC: Less than 0.01EUR
Page RPM: 0.04EUR
Pgae CTR: 0.69%

Estimated earning: too low 3.xx to 4.xx EUR

@sebmp
Is it worth to continue on this basis given that one impression with one click brings 4 eur in some cases even during Covid time?

With 620 clicks and only 3-4 EUR earnings you will make more money by just simply putting a random banner and sending people to Amazon. You will only need one or two sales a day to make 3-4 EUR on Amazon or other affiliate.

Pandemic, protesting, rioting, looting, mass unemployment, crushed businesses. It will be awhile before normal returns, if it ever does. At least you can tell your grandkids about the year 2020, one history will not forget.

I agree with Ember. The world is filled with anxiety. Less people shopping online so less advertising.

@nubchai The last 2 months have been the best sale months for our site in a decade. Folks are buying all kinds of stuff right now. Advertising is down because those big tall office buildings you see in the cities, are empty still and most companies don't want their workers using remote services to access the servers at their offices to do any sort of work, well that is companies that care about data security at least. A lot of the larger brands I tend to deal with such as P&G are now using FB Advertising as everyone is now on social media nowadays.

RPM's are climbing back from the hole that 2020 dug, but I am not hoping for a solid return to GA as; well like I've mentioned a few times over these threads, advertisers simply don't use Google Adwords anymore, because well, that's not where the people are now. Advertising on Google is like buying TV ad space at 2am. Advertising on FB is ultimately the best place to advertise and if anyone tells you different simply hasn't given it enough effort yet. All FB really has to do is format it's search better then all of a sudden G has no real place anymore other then mobile phones and data collection, which TBH can be done a lot more efficiently through the data FB collects. Maybe G should stick to only making applications and software as they really don't have much care for the advertising world anymore as we all know auto ads is a great start for their lack of care. I am curious if to see any graphs of ad blockers before auto ads, and ad blockers after auto ads implementation.

I advertise on Google and FB. For one demographic, Google works better. For a different demographic. FB does. So a blanket statement that FB is the best place to advertise and Google is like TV at 2am is incorrect. It depends on audience, product and other factors.

Also, the problem with Google Ads is, that is seems way too complex to set up and understand at the beginning. You will spend a whole day setting up your campaigns and in the end you might find it's not even worth it. You also have to give it few weeks to actually see what your real expenses will be, as there is a learning phase during the first 1-2 weeks. But, usually after those first weeks, the prices will stabilize.

The RPMs / CPCs on AdSense are simply unacceptable right now. And they have never been good for me anyway. At some point it may be more lucrative to simply replace AdSense ads with cyber-begging banners asking for people to simply send money.

The real revenue share, accounting for every middleman from advertiser's wallet to us, must be less than 30%. In other words - total ripoff.

Do you all use ads from other partners or is it just AdSense?

That's already happening actually. A lot of YouTubers are already begging for money through Patreon. YouTube traffic is literally being transferred to Patreon right now.

For me it's obvious, in the 8 years I'm using Adsense I never had clawbacks obove 6 or 7 percent. Mostly it was 2 to 3 percent and I don't have ads at strange positions. Last month there was a clawback of almost 20 percent, it's just a robbery and earnings are already near all-time low compared to each 1,000 visitors. I'm going to use even more impressions for header bidding and affiliates. I'm done with this robbery and they can go further with you guys ;-)
