MrJefe, that's pretty off-topic, you should create another thread for that.

@koan
Yeah, I should probably do that.
I started by only referencing that as a reason for my earnings plummet, but somehow went into detail.

Hi,

Since 03.09 we see a 60% drop CTR on mobile text ads.

We also get those weird 404 errors related to adsense and Mime type. My developer says it comes from google side and we cant do anything but im not sure. Maybe someone experienced something similar?

I see some are saying that their income is down etc. Could this be also due to the disappearing/appearing/disappearing adverts that's causing it?

I am getting around 63% coverage, and can be as low as in the 50's% - Therefore fewer adverts are being shown - fewer adverts to click on.

Is it a problem?

We are still down that consistent 70% year over year (and month over month.) We migrated to https, and are considering a change to more mobile specific formatting.

We have several sites but the money earned is pretty much dead in the water. Just adding my .02....

Best of luck yall. You guys have helped me... I still lurk, a lot.

My September has pretty much mirrored my August. RPM is almost identical at $13.50. I never notice the "sponsored links" on my link ads anymore. That more than anything else has put a blip in my year.

I can never really see the point of getting all excited about page RPM. Unless your getting thousands and thousands of hits a day you're not gonna make much money from that particular side of AdSense. For me, CPC is what I always keep an eye on.

@Ironside CPC is a biased metric, it only shows earnings from clicks. CPM is Cost per 1000 impressions or earnings from impressions only. RPM is not CPM, it is revenue per 1000 impressions and is based on revenue from all sources, clicks, impressions, engagement, etc... If you go to the clicks tab of your performance report you can see that there is a value for impressions RPM. You can compare the impressions RPM from the clicks tab, to the impressions RPM from the views tab. The difference between the two will tell you which bid type actually earns you more money. In my case clicks have a higher RPM than views but not by much. Note that you cannot take earnings from the clicks tab and compare it to earnings from the views tab, because the value would be biased by the number of impressions. I have about a 10x difference in impressions, that is 10x more CPC impressions than CPM. So when I compare earnings, I am earning about 10X more in dollar value with clicks.

10x difference in impression is due tot he fact that Adwords does not offer CPM bids. All CPM bids in your account are coming from 3rd party networks (Criteo and the like), that is why there are an order of magnitude fewer impressions.

@Nick

When you are only getting 2000 hits a day then you're not going to earn hardly anything from CPM or RPM are you? When I calculate my earnings they almost always tally up with CPC which obviously means I'm getting next to nothing from CPM or RPM.

Your missing the point. The number of hits per day is irrelevant, if your RPM is $13.50, that means you earn $13.50 for every 1000 impression, whether they come in ten minutes, an hour a day or a year. If your RPM is higher for CPM bids then for CPC bids then CPM bids are more valuable to you.

Say you had 1 click in a day at $5 your cpc would be $5 but during that day you had CPC 5000 impressions. Now lets say you earned 2$ from CPM impressions but you only had 1000 CPM impressions. You would feel like CPC was more valuable to you, because you earned 2.5x. You may even be tempted to say, "forget CPM I want only CPC". So you turn off 3rd party ads. But in the end you would earn less. This is because, CPC pays $1 RPM and CPM pays 2$ RPM, so in fact CPM is more valuable. For your 6000 impressions at CPC only you would earn 6$ and both CPM and CPC earns you $7. The optimal would be to turn off CPC in which case one would earn $12.

Now to some degree this is academic since in AdSense it is difficult to change the mix of bid types, but never the less it is important to understand the inherent biases of the metrics otherwise it may lead to poor decisions.

Is anyone here still getting the old style text ads on mobile devices?

We are currently getting the new format (with Open button) exclusively on all of our websites. We've also noticed that the new format now sometimes contains photo images. Performance on this new format continues to be significantly lower than the previous style for us.

@wobs are you talking the text ads that include images and and an arrow under them? I have seen a few of those

RPM is almost identical at $13.50.

I would sleep with Donald Trump for an RPM of $13.50.

Don’t do it for less than $17.00!

@Grapetimes - To clarify...

By old format, I'm referring to the standard style text ads that include a Nessie arrow (which disappears if you're being penalized for invalid clicks).
[ibb.co ]

The new format typically has a logo or photo image, and a button that says "Open" or "Visit."

I have actually seen two new text ad formats I’ve never seen before. Maybe Google is testing again.

It's amazing how one day can differ from another. At the moment my page RPM is £10.41 and CPC is 61p I've had seven clicks so far. Wouldn't it be great if it stayed like this all the time?

My September 2018 visitors numbers are down 3.5% compared to last September 2017.

My money is 21% lower this September compared to last year.

What can you do about that? Basically google or advertisers just aren’t paying as much. I guess just hope they pay more again next month. But I doubt it. Money is down year on year.

Time to learn about subscription models!

Good September. Looking forward to a good 4th quarter as Christmas bidding increases auction pressure.

September was better than August and it was pretty steady for most of the month but that fizzled in the last few days. I must agree I'm looking forward Q4 as well.

September was like a honeymoon this year, for me, but as usual, a new quarter will be slow to begin.
In my industry, the money will come after the middle of November.
