With the facts coming out about Facebook's data breach and the selling of user sensitive information for political campaigns, is anyone blocking FB ads?

I have been blocking them as I see them. I'm on the fence about blocking the url completely.

@NickMNS - that's what I've been doing but I'm considering blocking the domain. I'm not sure I want my branding associated with anything FB.

Just pulled the trigger. All FB ads blocked by domain. Now none of my site visitors will confuse the privacy violations of FB with my site.

What is the reason for blocking Facebook ads from AdSense?

Is it the perception that it'll scare users?

Or is it a personal choice to distance your site from Facebook so at not be associated with FB?

Or some other reason? Because if there is a good reason to block FB ads, I sure want to know about it! :)

Ads are one thing. FB impressions tend to be far and few between for me, and my feeling is that they are bottom fishing only low bidding.

The bigger question is all the sites, mine included, that have share on Facebook, or like us or follow us. On one hand I get a fair share of traffic from FB, typically more than I get from Bing. This traffic comes from people sharing my content. But I never get any traffic from stuff that I share my self, in fact I don't thing anybody even sees it. So I have always questioned the value of all links back to FB. Now in light of recent events, it may be the time remove those links too.

@martinibuster - yes, for the reasons you said and more. Privacy is a hot topic right now. I have gone to great length to be compliant with the EU ePrivacy Regulation, the W3CŪ Platform for Privacy Preferences (P3P) & the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) standards.

I've also removed my business page from FB. I don't want my company associated in any way with FB.

@NickMNS - I still have a personal FB account, which I do post memes and links to my site, so there's a gray area there. I do get good traffic from FB.

More specifically though, I don't want my company branding associated with privacy violations. When users are on my site, I don't want to say "hey look, even though your privacy is protected here at my site, because I get 20 cents for this ad, go ahead to FB where they sell your private information."

Even though I disavow responsibility for outgoing links & ads at least 2 different places (copyright & privacy policy) most visitors don't read those documents and may feel I am vouching for the actions of 3rd parties by publishing those ads.

I think I have asked this before, who will click on Facebook ads if they have a account or hate the company?

MayankParmar - IMO displaying FB ads on your page presents the assumption you support what FB stands for, otherwise you would not have their ad on your page.

Whether anyone clicks on that FB ad is not really the point.

Exactly, people who have an interest in having a Facebook account already have it , or , it's sure that they will not discover Facebook by visiting our sites ! ... Now, I suspect that these Facebook ads are causing invalid clicks, because often it might look like a "I like" function, especially on mobiles. So people might click it accidentally, thinking this is to like the page, or article. And I guess we are not getting paid for this.

Now, I wouldn't block the facebook.com site, because, some advertisers might promote their facebook page.

That's possible I guess, however I watch very closely and review every single ad & have never yet seen this in all my years of publishing Adsense.

But back to the point of this thread... even if someone was promoting their FB page via Adsense, I still won't carry the ad on my sites for the exact same reason... it's FACEBOOK!

Isn't all this against the rule #26 of the Term of Usage of Webmasterworld ?

Here is an example:

I often see this used by spammers. It may be a technique used to avoid getting you url blocked or detected, or possibly just a cheap way of creating a landing page. I see Google play being used more often.

Thanks for that NickMNS. Yet another reason to not allow FB domains.
