Hi folks, I used to have many sites monetized with adsense. After quite a few years away, I want to build up a portfolio of sites again. Obviously lots of things have changed in the past few years but I am having problems with the following; Can you help?

1. On a test site I have set up, ads seem to be only registering cpm which is just pennies. I want to change it to cpc but I cant figure our how to do that in my adsense account.

2. Can someone point me in the direction of some up to date training? Everything I seem to see is old info and out of date (I've been searching for 3 days now).

3. I want to grab ads in a format like oblong boxes. Does anyone know how to configure that?

Thanks so much for your help!

You may need to spend time looking around in your AdSense interface to find where things are stored. MyAds section has tabs that likely contain most of what you're looking for. Then look into Account Settings.

Please note- if you have not been using AdSense for some time, you probably need to generate new codes, particularly for asynchronous ads and responsive ad settings. You are quite likely to be disappointed for a while because many sites today earn a fraction of what they earned 5 years ago. CPC is often "just pennies" and compliance requirements have changed significantly. AdSense is not the sure shot it used to be.

These forums offer a complete (though DIY) course on what is working and what needs work. Recent AdSense discussions: [webmasterworld.com...]

Good luck!

You can't set your ads to "CPC". Adsense shows of all bid types inlcuding CPC, if you haven't made any money with clicks it is simply that you haven't had any clicks.

You can restrict your account to show only CPC and Active View CPM, but if you think you will increase your earnings with this action, simply, you wont.

2. Can someone point me in the direction of some up to date training?

Click on the help button on top right corner of your account there plenty of step by step instructions there. Or as not2easy suggested try the linked WW forums. Be weary of youtube, as there is a lot of misinformation to be found.

3. I want to grab ads in a format like oblong boxes. Does anyone know how to configure that?

In your account, left side bar => "My Ads" => "Ad Units"

Good luck, I don't know how long you been away for but things have changed drastically.. not necessarily for the better.

"3. I want to grab ads in a format like oblong boxes. Does anyone know how to configure that? "

If by "oblong boxes" you mean the long rectangle adblocks that some sites run, you can edit your Adsense ad code at the part where it says: data-ad-format="auto". Just change this to read data-ad-format="rectangle". The result is a taller, wider ablock which works well in certain content sections.

Adsense details that here:

Not exactly sure what you mean by "oblong boxes", but I see what I consider oblong boxes when I use link units.
