Most Adsense publishers have a few ads we don't want on our pages so we block them either in the Ad Review Center of our Adsense accounts, or by using the Chrome browser's Google Publisher Toolbar.

I usually block:

• anything that has those lime-green "Download" buttons. They really make a webpage look tacky and cheapen site branding.

• any ad that offers the user the ability to scrape my page content, usually by offering a tool to turn a webpage into a PDF or other similar tools.

• adblocker ads.

• anything overtly political or religious that may offend visitors.

Other than that, it's pretty much open season.

Which ads do you block and why?

I haven't needed to block an ad for years.

I long since blocked any topics that might cause offence such as political, religious and gambling ads.

I've blocked ad blocker ads only (including opera browser).

I've also started blocking those ads that fail to display in the Ad Review Center after one I let slip through turned out to be an ugly download ad on my page.
