Ad Unit by URL Channel - is this possible?

To see how an ad unit performs on individual url channels

I've used Adsense for years and I've never managed to find out how to do this, which definitely should be available.

Imagine you have 10 articles on your site which = 10 URL channels because you wish to track how each article performs.

You have URL Channel 1, 2, 3... all the way to 10.
You have 3 Ad Units: Top, Middle and Bottom.

How do you find out how well the top Ad Unit is performing on say, URL Channel 4, 7 and 9?

The Top Ad Unit might not work well on all articles and therefore you can remove it on those and leave it on the rest.

The only thoughts I've had is to create an obscene amount of Ad Units... like 3 for every single article. But that is just daft.

Damn good question. As soon as URL channels are selected anywhere in the reporting the "Ad Unit" option is greyed-out.
Something tells me this something you can do in DFP.

It's something that common sense suggests should be included in reports - but I'm sure you know, Google lacks a lot of common sense.

I don't use Google Analytics with Adsense - I wonder if it can be done using GA?

What's the maximum number of Ad Units that can be created? It might have to be a case of going down that route, but that really shouldn't be needed.

The best I could find is to use "creative size" as a proxy. Obviously this only works if your ad units (top, middle, bottom) have different sizes. You can account for responsiveness by adding a platform filter, again assuming you resize ads to discreet and distinct sizes.

But just one question, don't you have distinct code blocks for each ad unit. So Channel 1, top is one block then (C1t) , channel 1 middle in another (C1m) and so on (C2t, C3t etc...). In which case you could simply filter by ad-unit and select the relevant ad-units C4top, C7top, C9top.

The only things I use are URL Channels and Ad units.

I use a URL Channel for each article, as some of them are paginated, so it helps me track the article as a whole.

For each website, I just use the 320x100 for near the top, and either responsive or 300x250 in the middle/bottom of the content.

With what you say, are you suggesting multiple ad units for each article? So 100 articles means 300 ad units, if I have 3 per article?
