Why are my earnings so low?

I earn only $2 per 1000 uniques (before the recent problems with google, unfortunately I'm earning much less now, read this [webmasterworld.com...] ). I'm not in a high paying niche, but I think I'm supposed to earn more. From what I've heard even p*rn sites make that much. I have 2 ads and matched content (with ads) and I get close to 1000 unique visitors daily, mostly from Google, so yes, this is high quality traffic.

I have seen people say that even $4 for 1000 uniques is low. Is this true? Why are my earnings so low? Maybe it's because my website isn't responsive?

In the post you've linked to, you say that you are using responsive ads, but if your website is not responsive, it may be time to think about changing to a responsive layout to earn more. Have you checked to see what percentage of your visitors are using mobile devices to view your site?

If your layout is the traditional header, main section, sidebar and footer it is possible that ads in the sidebar are not seen even if you use responsive ads.

Yes 40%. It's a forum and it has no sidebar. Do you agree that $2 per 1000 uniques is low? I have read that some people earn $10 for the same amount of visitors. Is that true? I don't expect to earn that much but I was hoping I could increase it to 4$-5$.

It's not about traffic. Traffic is an unreliable metric for predicting earnings. There are other considerations.

To discover and learn what those considerations are, place some affiliate ads on your site. Then ask yourself why they do or do not monetize. Your answer will be the answer to why your AdSense earnings are low.

Good luck.

It's a forum

There's your answer. It's apples and oranges when you compare a forum to other types of sites.
