Adsense Click Fraud Prevention Idea (for Google)

I think this idea would be most effective if Google does not let Adsense publishers know of it, but here it is:

Log the IP address(es) of the Adsense account administrator (upon their account login). Keep a running list of the IPs they log in from. Prevent clicks from these IPs from charging advertisers on this Adsense account.

And less effective, but for Google searches -- log the IP address(es) of all Adwords account administrators. Cross reference search terms against the IP address Adwords advertisers. Do not allow clicks from Adwords avertisers on terms they are bidding on.

I recognize these solutions are not going to eliminate click-fraud, but certainly reduce it.

I thought this was what they already do. Can somebody confirm?

I am sure they do this type of checks based on IP address. They are the smartest company regarding data mining in the world.

But they will certainly perform other tests to like:

  • Compare CTR of different websites with the same keywords, to see if one site is far above the rest
  • Compare geographic distribution of impressions with geographic distribution of clicks to identify certain spots of activity
  • Focus more on some countries than on others based on their click fraud experience in the past
  • Read the forums on www.webmasterworld.com if anyone is asking specific questions about Adsense, site optimalisation etc.

Do you know where you read that they are doing this? It would be most effective if they ARE doing it and not telling anyone.

i don't think checking IP's alone is good enough to detect fraud. For example, I am on DSL connection and my IP is dynamic. If someone else is using an IP I had once used (and clicks my ads), that would mean I get cancelled.
